An 8” howitzer is 203mm.
At least the M110A2 guns of the bn I was in were 😉.
I was in bn FDC, it was all manual; charts and darts, charge sticks and firing tables, a record of fire sheet and a field phone to the battery on a field desk, sitting under canvas and camo nets, the FDO sitting under a grease penciled standard of fire chart, with a stop watch around his neck... dang if I don’t bmiss it still 35 years later, sniff!
“”I was in bn FDC, it was all manual; charts and darts, charge sticks and firing tables””
I was in FDC for a while but it was too tame for me, my son was also FDC.
Sounds like what I did back in 1968, most of ours were 105’s with a couple of batteries of 155’s.
It was over 50 years ago for me but it doesn’t sound like the procedures have changed much in that time, we were called “computers with a pencil”.
On the chart table I was known as the L/Cpl with the calibrated eyeballs.
