Help me here...Friendsgiving, what is that?

I saw a poster for it at the school I sub at and wondered the same thing. Apparently it’s just Thanksgiving spent with friends as opposed to family. But the cute new name misses (perhaps deliberately) the whole point of the holiday, doesn’t it?

We are supposed to be giving thanks to God for our blessings.

I thought a friendsgiving was the Saturday after Thanksgiving where friends get together to eat the leftovers
