There are a lot of Devil’s Advocates on this board. They all probably think they made a good deal with Old Scratch but they will be swindled.
Sometime between 2-3 pm IIRC. His speech lasted until after 1 and then he had to be transported back to the WH. So it was pry 1:30 pm before he got back to the Oval. A window of 30-90 minutes isn’t “hours,” FFS!
My memory is 2 hours. I watched everything unfolding on tv wondering what was taking him so long to say something. His family thought he needed to say something sooner also.
It was probably the biggest blunder of his presidency.

This thread (and others) are specifically about the Tweet.
People are using the revelation of this Tweet as proof that Trump asked for calm. Well, Duh....we know he eventually did. The problem is, people think it’s proof that he did this immediately upon finding out what was really happening. He didn’t. He waited. And staff and his family members urged him to say something...and he waited some more..... It took him too long to finally tell people to stop and go home.
The Tweet is pretty meaningless if it was sent an hour & half to 2hrs later.

I disagree. The Tweet AND his speech prior to the Capitol breach showed that it was never his intent to foment ANY violence and riots.
Think about it, the entire premise of the January 6 committee was this: TRUMP ENCOURAGED THE RIOTS AND VIOLENCE BECAUSE HE REFUSED TO ACCEPTTHE RESULTS OF THE ELECTIONS. THey used one word over and over again : INSURRECTION.
If he did, he would not have used the words: PEACEFULLY and PEACEFUL before or after the breach. Which tells us one thing — He never encouraged anyone to break the law.
If he did, he would have said nothing even after the capitol breach. THAT is the point of the Tweet.
So, the Tweet is DEFINITELY MEANINGFUL. It is one MORE evidence that he had nothing to do with the actions of those who wanted to be violent.
If he had come out immediately, it would have made that case much stronger. The anger afterward from people around him and others who had supported him, came because he waited so long and didn’t seem to respond appropriately to the seriousness of what was happening. By waiting, it gave the appearance that he supported what was happening and just made the case stronger against him.
Do I think it was what he had in mind or planned? No.
He made a poor decision which gave the democrats fuel for their fire.
