I met the principal of the middle school I went to back in 1967-68. He's in his early eighties now.
I had the opportunity to tell him how lucky we all were to have gone there. The exciting teachers, brand new school, interesting classes. The school had an olympic-size pool that was lots of fun.
He told me he knew how great it was too, and then said this, staring me directly in the eyes: "It will never happen again."
The pool was permanently closed back in the '90s.
Yup. That’s when it was. ‘65 in Yuma.
So goddamn hot, the dog crawled under the car to get some shade. But it was pretty calm. Nothin’ but us Evil Caspers there.
