Or it could’ve been a false flag (although why bomb farmland in the middle of nowhere?)
Or it could’ve been launched to intercept a missile coming from Belarus.
Of course our resident Putinistas avoid the obviously point that if Russia confined its rocketry to targets in south and east Ukraine instead of trying to hit central, north and west Ukraine, then Poland and Moldova wouldn’t be at risk at all.
Russia’s been firing into Khmelnytskyi Oblast recently. I know it well. It’s named for a very small city with no direct relevance to the conflict beyond hosting a few thousand displaced persons, and has a smaller city with a nuclear power station.
Where is Russia firing at it from? Certainly not Russia. Either its missiles are traveling south out of Belarus or north out of the occupied region. Either way, Ukraine has incoming to shoot at.
And if that’s true also for population centers north or east of that Oblast, it means a wayward Russian missile OR a wayward Ukrainian missile could easily end up travelling some distance off course and into a neighbor.
If Russia wasn’t firing that deep into Ukraine then Zelenskyy wouldn’t have a leg to stand on. He has plausible deniability because Russia has been firing deep into areas far outside the theater of conflict. Even if the missile is Ukrainian, it would be difficult to prove that it was deliberately fired at Poland.

Once again, thank you for your thoughtful assessment and comment.
