i fear where we are headed in fighting among ourselves. Newt Gingrich has made some very salient points on all this:
A 2024 election in which the GOP is deeply divided and angry with itself would be an historic disaster similar to 1964.
In that situation President Joe Biden – or whoever the Democrats nominate – would sweep into office with huge majorities in the House and Senate. America would continue to move toward Big Government Socialism and wokeism, and America would grow poorer, weaker, less free, and more vulnerable to enemies who want to replace us as the leading power in the world.
President Trump has it in his power to bring together all the major candidates and agree to limit to campaign attacks. Arguments over policy are fine. Attacks based on personality guarantee bitterness and divisiveness.
The GOP has been deeply divided for a long time. Until Trump, people were extremely disappointed over the Presidential candidates the GOP was offering us. We held our noses and voted for them despite not being happy. Trump changed all that, and people are not willing to go back to the shit show that the GOP was forcing down our throats. Trump offered us an alternative to the same ol’, same ol’ wishy-washy candidates.
Within his power, but not within his character.
His snarky nicknames and taunts are getting old and they are not as effective as they once were and. becoming a net negative for him.
Many voters have developed a visceral hatred for the man and his taunts are beginning to make him look juvenile and toxic.
Yeah, I know all about Saul Alinsky and his schtick works and Trump has mastered Rule 3 “Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy.”, Rule 5 “Ridicule is man's most potent weapon” and Rule 6. “A good tactic is one your people enjoy.”
However, Trump is in the process of being taken down by Rule 7 “A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.”
Trumps ridicule strategy is becoming stale, counter productive and inflammatory to a large segment of the electorate.
It worked like a charm in the beginning because He nailed Rule 3 - his opponents were blindsided and did not know how to deal with his strategy and were clueless how to respond effectively. They are learning how to beat Trump at his own game, even if it took them close to 8 years.
Trump needs to come up with a fresh, more subtle and clever new way to ridicule his opponents (most of whom desperately need to be ridiculed)
Many of his supporters don't realize that he is falling into a dangerous trap of his own making because of Rule 6 - they really enjoy seeing Trump stick it to those that so richly deserve ridicule and it blinds them to how corrosive and passe his approach is becoming and the fact that it is beginning to annoy and alienate even some of his most staunch supporters (including me)
Trump needs to grow in office and change with the times. Our country is facing one of the most dire crisis in it's history and Trump needs to focus on solutions. He needs to work on healing the hatred and anger of many Americans to bring people together and forge a consensus on the direction of our nation.
Remember, MAGA means Make America Great Again and Trumps divisive style has made many hate and oppose the message of MAGA simply because they hate and oppose the messenger
Trump's heart is in the right place but his style and tone are becoming a drag that has dragged on too long.
