Russian citizens: Please include the movies in that ban.
Jim who?
Finally, something I can applaud about Putin!
“Do you have any proof of that crazy contention?”
Why is it something you don’t understand is crazy? Finance is more than just money. It also contains worth. A perfect example of how Russia is slowly strangling Europe, and could put a real problem on the US, would be Germany.
Until recently, Germany bought more than half of its gas from Russia. And the government of Europe’s largest economy is now battling to shore up winter gas supplies amid growing fears that Moscow could soon turn off the taps completely.
What’s more, Europe’s race to save enough gas comes at a time of skyrocketing prices. The surge in energy costs is driving up household bills, pushing inflation to its highest level in decades and squeezing people’s spending power.
Holger Schmieding, chief economist at Berenberg Bank, said Gazprom’s latest announcement was an apparent attempt to exploit Europe’s dependence on Russian gas. The EU depends on Russian gas for 45 percent of its imports and around 40 percent of its consumption. To put these numbers in perspective: Russia is by far Europe’s largest supplier.
Russia has drastically reduced natural gas supplies to Europe in recent weeks, with flows via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline currently operating at just 20% of the agreed-upon volume. But to make up the volume sold, they just have to raise the price. Winter is coming on and in Europe that usually means low temperatures and snow. A lot of people are going to suffer, and die, without Russia gas. In the US, we are dependent upon 10% of our gas from Russia. It will effect the US also if Russia gets a hair crosswise. And to stay healthy and even alive in some cases, the price they set will be paid or they’ll cork the supply. And that could even include the US stopping weapons shipments. So it isn’t all about money.
