I’ll wager that you complain when a person refers to himself or herself as “they,” too. (I’m in your camp)
Neither of my folks spoke English as a first language. They drilled proper grammar into my siblings and me as a way of distinguishing ourselves in the working world when we grew up. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but now thank God daily for their having done so. My grammar posts aren’t complaints so much as my way of paying my parents’ gift to me forward.
