By 2025, the Prius will be close to dead.
Toyota is not right.
Their sales have been heading down even as Tesla’s kept skyrocketing.
Hybrids are not going anywhere. A temporary “solution” for Toyota.
Tesla is kickig Totota’s butt in EV sales and now in profits.

In ICS vehicles who's sales are fast crashing.
They certainly weren’t slow getting into electric.
But maybe they have figured that the climate change globe-killers are herding autos into the ditch of limited and costly EV battery materials — and don’t want to go over the cliff with the rest of them?
Tesla stopped getting them EV subsidies over 2 years ago.
And they have been dominating the EV business even more since they stopped getting subsidies.
Tesla is just more efficient.
Yes, but Toyota’s sales have been going down even as Tesla’s sales have kept skyrocketing.
But they aren’t necessarily just oriented to the short term?
GM has been around even longer than Toyota, and I don’t see much of a good future for GM either.
I don’t think the low end Toyota brands would be in direct competition with most Tesla models. It seems to me the Lexus brand would take the hit. From what I’ve read, many of the Toyota models are a bit dated and in need of a refresh..

But the global plan presumably is to significantly shrink the industry.

And GM’s been all in on the auto sector becoming one of surveillance and control for years now. They’ve long been referring to themselves as being in the information industry.
As a thirty plus year exec in automotive R&D, I can tell you that you cannot judge sales numbers at all in 2020-2022 due to the chip shortage.
That being said, EV has a few problems with it: they are super heavy and advanced and quality lightweight materials just are not up to snuff. Tesla does not use quality interior trim materials. It’s sad actually considering the price. Toyota makes the finest quality mass market cars. Lexus uses top notch materials. After years in R&D in both interior and exterior, it’s what I drive but to be honest, I wanted a hybrid RX but just not available due to the chip shortage.
My fiancée drives a Toyota Vivo in Thailand and it is a hybrid petrol and LPG car. That is a nice option also. Toyota is betting on hydrogen which is definitely renewable. I’m interested to see how that goes. It is being experimented with in Kommiefornia.

The president of Toyota has come out numerous times to extol the virtues of not rushing into banning fossil fuels and mandating EVs.
The Prius was years ahead of its time. The transmission is a work of mechanical art. Of course, Prius owners can be a PITA.
