A popular question now, especially with Fetterman and Kathy Hochul, not to mention Gretchen Whitmer and so many others.
Here are some unpopular answers. Yes, there’s plenty of election rigging via Infinite Election Period and ballot harvesting, remote voting and all that, but yes there are plenty of people who vote for them. Why?
1. Yellow Dog Democrats – There are more Democrats who vote straight party line than Republicans. While there have been some backlashes over crime, school shutdowns, masking and mandates that get massively amplified via conservatives on social media or moderate Democrats like Bari Weiss’ Common Sense and Bill Maher, that’s still a minority. There’s still a minimal dent in the wall of black church ladies and upscale white suburbanites, not to mention woke college students (though the vote in smaller numbers) who are going to vote for the Democrat.
Almost any Democrat.
Beating that means boosting voter turnout and winning over independents to beat the zombie margin.
2. Cultural Issues Matter – Some conservatives inhabit echo chambers and really don’t believe anyone could possibly be enthusiastic about voting for Hillary, Hochul or Fetterman, or pack the polls over abortion. I’ve always lived in blue states and cities, and these people exist and there are a lot of them out there.
All those “In This House” yard signs? I see them everywhere. They’re cultural gatekeeping.
Conservatives are outraged by sex grooming in schools. They’re outraged by the lack of it. There is a certain demographic that is violently infuriated over abortion and is every bit as passionate about it as the activists who block abortion clinics.
And quite a few of these people are well off and able to donate a lot of money. And they show up to vote.
Culture war means cultivating their conservative opposite numbers. And reviving a nearly moribund social conservatism. But until social conservatism makes a comeback, Democrats have the advantage on voting on cultural issues.
3. A lot of politics is about making the other side and its candidates seem as grotesque as possible, eliciting the familiar, “Who could possibly vote for these freakshows” reaction.
But that’s not a universal reaction, it’s an echo chamber reaction.
“Orange Man Bad” was that. They’re not universal. And the Left has much better range thanks to its dominant cultural position to push disgust for Republican and conservative figures.
And there are plenty of Democrats and even independents who buy into it and react with, “Who could possibly vote for these freakshows” to conservative and Republican candidates.
Getting over these cultural humps is challenging. You might have thought that a massive economic crisis and a crime wave would do it. It made inroads, but those inroads didn’t go far enough.

I wonder how the down ballot vote totals compare to the top of ticket vote totals on mail-in ballots from big-city counties like Wayne (Detroit) or Maricopa (Phoenix/Scottsdal). In other words, how many ballots had the straight party box checked, but none of the non-partisan races or ballot proposals were voted?
If there is a huge imbalance in vote totals, that could be an indication of what I supposed in the first paragraph.
Most of the lefties I know are terrified of the Chyna flu. At the same time they swear by masks and vaxx. They should be gone soon enough.
Democrats are Collectivists
Republicans are Individualists
GOP Turnout in Michigan, Wisconsin & Illinois was dismal. Now a few days after the election, Conservatives in Michigan are posting that they stayed home on purpose to “punish” Tudor Dixon.
So you got the Witch as a reward?
#votebluenomatterwho was there clarion call on social media.
Punish for what?
They vote for their team no matter who the players are.
know your opponent.
Maybe democrats on paper only…check the graves.
Suburban Democrats don’t care about their bottom line anymore. That’s because they are government or non-profit employees, or they are in professions where they can charge what they like, or they are consultants who find ways of profiting from the chaos. “Socially liberal and fiscally conservative” isn’t the big thing it once was. Not to mention, “socially liberal” has taken a major “socially left” turn.
My (deceased) uncle in eastern MA would vote straight demonrat. I questioned how could anyone have voted for Barney Frank (pedophile) and Ted Kennedy (womanizer/drunk). I once asked him if he would have voted for Hitler if he was a demonrat. We never again talked politics after that exchange.
Pennsylvania should crawl in a hole and pull the top in over them for electing this disgrace. Sorry for his stroke but he was a freak before and a freak now. United States Senator? We have now hit rock bottom.
What a shame and what a sham of our republic has been made.
The Conservatives are angry that Tudor Dixon was backed by Betsy DeVos - There was some fierce internal fighting with many claiming that Devos was splitting the party
The party in-fighting doomed Dixon.
The Democrats are willing to cheat their butts off using any and every method available to them.
They would vote for Hitler if he had a “D” next to his name.
I did not stay home, I went and voted but I could not vote for Lankford and so voted present. We do not offer enough strong alternative candidates. Lankford is a screaming example of sub-mediocre. Aside from not wearing black hoodies Lankford is nearly his mental equivalent in a pre-stroke condition.
INFLUENCE
THAT was my battle cry while we were home schooling in the 80's - 2000.
We decided we didn't want our boys to be constantly subjected to the way girls looked and acted, nor did we want our girls influenced by the boys that had been influenced by the girls and what we considered loose dress code and mannerisms.
It doesn't matter if we were right or wrong . . . we were the parents and we had the opportunity to be a direct part in rearing our children (Isn't that the subliminal construct in today's education "conversations" ?)
I've seen and heard a few clips exposing electioneering, which is influencing.
I don't think I'm wrong
Well, Conservatives are typically Individualists.
Republican elitists (especially those in D.C.) are just really bad Collectivists...you have to have “leadership” for a good collectivist movement (Republican elitists are the world’s worst at leadership)!
