Ron Johnson, most vulnerable Senate Republican, wins reelection in Wisconsin

Sen. Ron Johnson (Wis.), who was the Democrats’ biggest Republican target in the Senate, was projected to defeat Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes (D) and win reelection to a third term.

NBC News and CNN both called the race for Johnson.

Johnson and allied outside groups spent the last several months of the race defining Barnes as soft on crime in a barrage of attack ads, which some Democratic critics say were intended to sow racial divisions and play on the fears of suburban voters

Johnson and Republican allied groups repeatedly hit Barnes for supporting the end of cash bail, which they linked to the 2021 Waukesha Christmas parade attack in which a 39-year-old man who had been released from custody on $1,000 bail after being accused of domestic violence crashed his SUV through a crowd, killing six people and injuring dozens more.

Story from the other night but goes to show you that an outspoken candidate with a following like Ron can win even in Wisconsin ...

I'm pleased for him.

Huh. A MAGA candidate winning a swing state. The TDS crowd told us that was impossible.

The fact that he won almost erases the bad news of Gov. Evers’ reelection. Johnson does not need to be doing this - he has resources, and at his age could be enjoying a nice retirement. He delayed the decision to announce that he was running for reelection this time - to the point where it would have handicapped another Republican who might have stepped in. Barnes was nowhere near qualified. He had personal integrity issues that a fair media would have raised in his previous campaign for Lt. Governor.

Thank you Senator Johnson!

Domestic violence? It was a flat out terrorist attack and mass murder.

Exactly what I was getting at. Incumbency helps but this was no slam dunk against one of their state wide elected officials.

They must “like” him. Imagine that !

I’ll buy MAGA.

I’m just starting to separate MAGA from Trump. Trumps attacks on DeSantis are unseemly and corrosive.

Trump will be 78 in 2024. He seems to have lost what little filter he had.

I hold him responsible for what happened here in PA.

Mastriano, the top of the ticket, had to be outspent 100+ to 1 in advertising. He was abandoned by the Turtle which is unforgivable. Trump has hundreds of millions of dollars in his campaign war chest. HOW MUCH did he give to Doug Mastriano???? The drag at the top of the ticket wrought havoc for OZ and all the way down ballot.

I don’t think Johnson is really MAGA as he was in the Senate before MAGA came along, but he’s a good man. I think there was a lot of outside money go into Barnes’s campaign too. Democrats have lots and lots and lots of money from their corporate masters and in kind donations from their friendly mass media. I didn’t think Tim Michels was the best candidate and the democrats lied like dogs against him.

Save it. PA voted/cheated for a brain-dead commie POS. PA deserves what it gets.

Glad that Johnson pulled it off in Wisconsin.

The situation there (holding Milwaukee and Madison votes till the last minute in order to give Barnes the lead) had me worried for awhile.

Congratulations, Ron

The TDS crowd told us that was impossible.

They also told us that Trump had no chance of winning in 2016.

... Domestic violence? It was a flat out terrorist attack and mass murder.

That refers to his previous charge, from which he was released from custody ... and proceeded to mow down a parade while a "freed" man.

If they don’t pullout AZ, it is going to a GA runoff for Senate control again... just nuts.
