With House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) facing a more turbulent road to the speakership after Republicans’ lackluster gains on election night, some Democrats argue that attempting to strike a deal with the California Republican in exchange for speaker votes on the floor could be beneficial as other Democrats float attempting to nominate an alternative GOP choice like outgoing Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) to serve in the role.

First of all, a GOP majority is far from certain. At least 50% chance Pelosi will be Speaker again.

Second - if McCarthy is short because of GOP votes for anyone else, it is 100% certain that, if a majority (>218) is required to choose the Speaker, the Dem votes will be there for McCarthy, who will agree to keep the January 6 "committee" in place in exchange.

If Republicans who don't want McCarthy do not attend the session, the choice will be a majority of those attending, meaning Pelosi will be re-elected.

Trump for Speaker. Can’t think of anything else. It’ll make the last two years of America fairly entertaining

Of the incoming 435 Members, there aren't ten who would vote for Trump as Speaker.

The entire House.
I doubt any R’s would vote for Cheney.
The only way this works is if there are still disputed races on January 3. D’s drop the disputes and let McCarthy become Speaker.

Several districts with democratic leads need to turn if we are to win the house.“

When has that ever happened?

I think you are right. They are afraid of a rebellion so they are going to drop the shoe on the House slowly to keep things from blowing up. Then rats cannot lose either house or the covers could get pulled back.

An article completely frabicated from one peyote-dusted quote from Rep. Gayagag, “Just cut a deal with the Dems Kevin. Whatever you get from Freedom Caucus will not be worth it. The odds will be good but the goods will be odd.”, do not a FreeRepublic post make.

BWAHAHAHAHA.. you lose your primary by 40 points as an incumbent but your reward will be to be the speaker and 3rd in line to the presidency even though you aren’t even a voting member of the body?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA yea, okay...

Sad isn’t it?

435 members of the House. Of that, less than 10 are worth a damn. The rest are some of the most devious, depraved and corrupt folks in the country. And, yet, they are elected, over and over, and no one seems to really care all that much.
