Brian Kemp Is Better at Politics Than You Are. The Georgia governor’s resounding victory over Stacey Abrams — and Donald Trump — confirms his political savvy.

Brian Kemp is a winner. Though his margin of victory was large, his win was not inevitable.

Donald Trump made it a mission to defeat Kemp after he refused to play along with Trump’s stolen-election nonsense in 2020. He endorsed David Perdue, the former Georgia senator, in the Republican primary.

Going up against the former president, who remains the most prominent personality in the Republican Party, was no small task. But Kemp approached his reelection campaign intentionally and with considerable skill.

First step: Defeat Perdue. Already a known quantity statewide, Perdue could have defeated Kemp. Many other Republicans who faced the threat of running against a Trump-endorsed candidate in the primaries essentially conceded the race before it began or retired from politics altogether.

Not Kemp.

He was the incumbent governor. He had defeated Stacey Abrams in a close race in 2018 after being baselessly accused of “voter suppression” by the entire left wing of the country. He had assembled a solid conservative record. He cut taxes and oversaw extraordinary job growth (the state’s unemployment rate is below 3 percent). He signed a law banning abortion after a heartbeat is detected. He expanded school choice for Georgia K–12 students.

He stood up to the entire national media on Covid policy. When other governors were locking down and contemplating Covid passports, he was the first to let businesses and churches reopen and pushed to reopen schools. The Atlantic hyperventilated about “Georgia’s experiment in human sacrifice.” Georgia’s Covid death rate is middle-of-the-pack, nearly identical to New York and lower than New Jersey and Michigan, whose Democratic governors were objects of adoration for Kemp’s critics.

He stood up to the entire national media, corporate America, and the Democratic Party on Georgia’s voting law. “Easy to vote and hard to cheat” was his line

I will say, Trump screwed the pooch with the State of Georgia, when he made an enemy of Kemp, when Kemp opened up Georgia during COVID. Trump criticized him for that, and it pretty much turned Kemp into an enemy. If I had to say what was the worst thing Trump did as POTUS, it was that. It wound up having huge ramifications.

Trump wasn’t against Kemp during COVID. The national media was trying to get Trump to condemn him hard. I remember it well. Trump said he wasn’t happy about it but they were Watchung it closely(It was clear Trump was brushing off the media at this point). What turned Trump on him was the election.

Trump has damaged himself often by letting his short temper get in front of common sense.

Political savvy?!

The guy has done NOTHING but cover his own butt and ingratiate himself in power.

He’s done nothing for the citizens of Georgia while their cities burned in the summer of love and let the 2020 elections be stolen.

I’m done with this team rino crap.

“What has Kemp done except enable and defend the Big Cheat?”

Maybe because he figured out how to cheat in Georgia?

Something is better than nothing. Kemp is a powerful goper operator in Georgia. Common sense would say not to piss on him for nothing. Worse than nothing, he was right to open the during the Covidsam. It just angered Trump because he was not the first to do it and hadn’t realized he was being played D Fakey. Trump has tripped himself up a number of times and his management this year is a second campaign really pooorly managed in a row.

Let’s give this RINO slimeball his due. There is no governor Stacy Abrams today in Georgia, and he even got her to concede this election. Georgia would be a liberal racist hell with Stacy Abrams as governor. Such a hell that my bet is Kemp had a large percentage of blacks voting for him. And a huge percentage of Georgia Hispanics.

There are plenty of Hispanic voters across America that equate Blacks in high office with chaos, incompetence, thievery and anarchy

Dominic,

Look at what Trump accomplished while you stood in his way.

Gas price per gallon was about $2.30;
Inflation about 1.4%, mortgage,rates were half of what they are now;
Unemployment was low before Covid and before Blue Governors shut everything
down and we were in the midst of a V-shape recovery;
Tax decrease; tax laws promoted small businesses as well as large;
US enjoyed energy independence - No Green Agenda, no war on energy, No Paris Treaty;
No war in Ukraine; NATO paid its way;
China was quiet and we were winning the trade war;
US companies were bringing home the jobs due to tax treatment;
Peace in the Middle East aka Abraham Accords; US Embassy moved to Jerusalem;
Iran was isolated.
