Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' resounding victory over Democrat Charlie Crist — fueled by the strongest GOP showing in Miami-Dade County in two decades — has cemented his position as a 2024 presidential contender.
Why it matters: The big, broad win is a massive show of force against former President Trump, whose blessing propelled DeSantis to office. DeSantis is the first GOP governor to win Miami-Dade County, a Democratic stronghold, since Jeb Bush's re-election in 2002. He did so by double digits.
"Never seen a race that big in my history of working in Florida politics. That's an absolute bloodbath," a Florida-based Democratic consultant told Axios' Alexi McCammond.

The big picture: DeSantis' 2024 stock has steadily risen over the past year, even as Trump has grown more serious about his presidential plans — now believed to be imminent — to declare a formal comeback bid.
DeSantis' campaign and aligned political committee raised an astonishing $200 million for his re-election, with $90 million left burning a hole in the bank as the term-limited governor contemplates his next move. GOP megadonor Ken Griffin told Politico this week he would back DeSantis in 2024, saying "it's time to move on to the next generation."

On a night in which Republicans as a whole failed to live up to expectations, DeSantis blew through them. I’d say he’s a contender.
I agree. Here is the win-lose formula in my mind.
1. Every Trump fan will still come out and vote for DeSantis, if DeSantis is the 2024 candidate.
2. Ten million more Rats will come out just to vote AGAINST Trump, if he is the candidate. They won’t be motivated to come out to vote against DeSantis.
That built-in “hate Trump” Rat vote gives DeSantis the edge.

Yesterday America told Donald Trump in no uncertain terms to go away while Ron DeSantis enjoyed one of the greatest gubernatorial landslide re-elections in history, a victory that Trump had nothing to do with.
DeSantis is the future. Accept this or suffer more catastrophic defeats.

Huge win but he ran against a bad candidate. A total re-tread with zero credibility. If he hadn’t won I’d be more surprised. DiSantis is the cult figure d’jour and watching the “Heis so great and can do no wrong” crowd is pathetic. Soon they will turn on him too as when he has a slight falter. Fickle bunch.
He’s been saying that for a long time. Everyone knew he would announce, something. How many votes do you think that flipped, especially knowing the early voting affect?

Hate to say it, but I feel you’re right. I’ve spent time with these people — they still hate Trump with a white hot passion and can’t rub him out of their pea brains.
We need someone like DeSantis — unafraid to be a republican, but with the ego and loose cannon big mouth. I’m not sure Trump is helping us anymore at this point. His comments bring down republicans as a whole, and we don’t need that.

He is but I don’t see it as such a huge win. Crist was a horrible, re-tread candidate that was easily beaten.
