That is some lousy, self-serving math. The party not in control of the Oval Office has usually gained a substantial number of seats in the first midterms.

By this historical metric, the Republicans got trounced.

Ok so may I understand something.

Prior to this election, the Democrats controlled the House of Reps.

But it appears that following this election, the Republicans will control the House

so even if the GOP winds up with a majority of something they didn’t control before — they lost the House election?

Yes. The red tsunami will end up being blunted by the Trump undertow. The Republicans should be measuring the drapes already but they’re holding out hope for Walker in GA to keep the senate split. Even if we do get the house, the Republican leadership will use the slim majority as an excuse to reach across the aisle. By every objective metric we should have won big.
