For the first time in nearly 30 years, Guam elected a Republican as its non-voting U.S. Congressional delegate on Tuesday. James Moylan, a senator in the island’s legislature, defeated Democrat Judith Won Pat by 1,648 votes out of 32,502 votes cast, according to the Pacific Daily News. The results are partial and unofficial. He was the first Republican elected to the position since 1993 and only the second since 1972, when the seat was created, the newspaper reported. As an island in the western Pacific Ocean, Guam was the first midterm contest decided on Tuesday.

Guam rocks!
It “flipped”!!!
Stolen from another Freeper:
Hank Johnson has been expecting Guam to flip for the last fifteen years.
Yes indeed!
This means essentially nothing. The “delegate” does not vote in the house. Guam has 170,000 people and more snakes than people.
We don’t want DC and Puerto Rico voting.
I don’t have an issue with PR and Guam having Representation in the House. As territories, they should have the ability to do so. D.C should never be allowed to vote, and IMO should be absorbed into Maryland.
Dems would give DC 2 senators.
Territories should not get Senators.
And as I said, DC should be integrated back into Maryland.
DC is not a territory.
A non voting rep is Taxation with no Representation.
Right, DC should not become a state..If congress tries to make it one, SCOTUS should intervene because the Constitution says it must be “separate and apart from the other particular States.” If SCOTUS ever has a Dem majority, though, they might invent a reason to allow it.
