Then call it a tropical storm? Why “subtropical storm Nicole?”

Follow your local county emergency management advisories. Damage is a function of storm surge, rainfall amounts and winds. The storm surge and winds are dependent on the strength of a storm and your location relative to the eye of the storm and the coast.
Learn about the "dirty" side of a storm. Learn about your flood potential locally. Your property may be low flood risk, while some roads are prone to flooding in heavy rains. Be prepared for power outages.

Yeah, it’s mainly a giant hassle. Better than riding it out in a marina, slamming pilings and other boats.

Lots of good places, assuming your chain/anchors etc are up to the job.

Nicole should batter our beaches here in northern PB County. Other than that, it looks like a lot of rain and wind.

The weather after the election looks dark and rough as reality sets in and the rose colored glasses no longer work.

It will.
There is a big political storm brewing.

Tampa will get some rain, so I will be checking my garden railroad today. With Ian I lost 2 bridges. Think I should contract FEMA to tell them I lost 2 Railroad bridges? 🤓

Nicole does not have as tight a central core circulation as a tropical storm so for now it is classified as a sub-tropical storm. Think of it as a warmer version of a nor’easter.
When or if it does develop the tighter central core, the NHC would classify it as a tropical storm (or even a hurricane if strong enough). This is expected although not guaranteed to happen late Wednesday as it approaches Florida.

Speaking of gardens, my first tomatoes of the season are blooming. As young seedlings, they spent a few days in the garage during Ian. Will need to protect them, along with scallions and lettuce seedlings this week. Second round of tomatoes have sprouted. Looks like they may spend a couple of days sheltered under the deck for Nicole.
