I grew up as a boy in GITMO in the 60’s.
They would cut Jeeps in half in order to ask for replacement vehicles. It was normal to see a sailor driving a “personal” Jeep that was welded back together.
That’s really playing the game! Most likely, everybody knew about it and expected it to happen.
