Anyone who expects Russia to leave a lever they can pull to their advantage un-pulled is delusional.
The real astonishing thing is Russia is paying Ukraine to ship gas across Ukrainian territory to Europe. That pipeline is still in use. I’m sure Ukraine would love to shut it down as it is directly benefiting Russia by providing desperately needed income. But by shutting it down Ukraine would be damaging its much-needed allies.
There was this theory published just prior to WWI stating that there would never again be a European war because Europe was so financially interdependent that no country could afford to go to war.
Theres money in it (gas pipelines across Ukraine) for Russia.
This is a lever that works both ways.
