Our Irish - Catholic dad was born and raised in San Francisco. He would have been 101 years old this month. He remembered signs: No Dogs or Irish Allowed.
He laughed at all of them. He fought in WWII, Korea and Vietnam as a pilot (and other assignments). Thanks to God he survived all of it, and returned to help raise my two brothers and four sisters. He had a drawer full of medals he never wore, unless some General ordered him to wear them. (he retired a Colonel.
Like most soldiers and warriors, he did not discuss his experiences much. He did say once, when we were very young and were looking in the drawer of medals, he said ‘just means I was lucky.’ To him, the real heroes were those that did not return.
Anti-Irish signs mean nothing to Irish.
We know we are superior to all. ;)
