Russia pulls out of grain export deal over Crimea drone attack

Russia has said it is suspending its participation in the agreement to ensure the continuation of Ukrainian grain exports — vital for food supplies to poor countries — linking the decision to a drone attack on Russian ships in occupied Crimea on Saturday morning.

The defence ministry announced the move, and it was also reported by the state news agency TASS.

"Taking into account the terrorist act carried out by the Kyiv regime with the participation of British experts against ships of the Black Sea fleet and civilian vessels involved in the security of grain corridors, Russia suspends its participation in the implementation of the agreement on exports of agricultural products from Ukrainian ports," the Russian defence ministry announced on Telegram.

The move comes a day after UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged Russia and Ukraine to renew the deal that has seen more than nine million tons of grain exported from Ukraine and brought down global food prices.

Earlier on Saturday, the Russian military blamed Ukraine and Britain for what it called a massive drone attack on its Black Sea fleet in Crimea, a peninsula annexed by Moscow.

Russia sent a bunch of trouble makers into sovereign Ukrainian territories looking for a fight. They got one.

Why do you act as though this conflict began in Feb 2022 and the West had nothing to do with it?

The US led West pushed for this for almost a decade----- prodded, instigated, interfered, armed, inflamed, pissed on negotiations ----- Had it not been for the election of Trump, 2017 would have been "the year of offense against the Russians" as McCain proclaimed to Ukrainian soldiers in 2016----promising them our complete support.

This is the West's war against Russia -- who will govern The Donbas in The Borderland is the excuse put in play in 2014 ---

Spend some time getting to know Victoria Nuland and her role in the 2014 Ukraine elections for president. --- Then gather the facts on the Ukrainian Revolution in 2014, including its instigators and the brutal consequences in the Donbas.

BTW, 2014 is also the year Hunter Biden was placed on the Board of Burisma - the largest natural gas producer in Ukraine.

Root for Ukraine's victory. But, at least take at shot at why the US should be involved in this up to its eyeballs---depleting our treasury and our military readiness --- actively prolonging this conflict all the way to nuclear war.

“Russian speaking”

Americans have long mainly spoken English, but sought to not be ruled by George III.

And just because Irish speak English, instead of Gaelic, doesn’t mean they want to be ruled by England.

NATO countries signed Minsk-2, sorry.

No, incorrect.

Minsk II Signatories

The document was signed by:

Separatist's leaders Alexander Zakharchenko and Igor Plotnitsky

Swiss diplomat and OSCE representative Heidi Tagliavini

Former president of Ukraine and Ukrainian representative Leonid Kuchma

Russian Ambassador to Ukraine and Russian representative Mikhail Zurabov

Slumped over in a rocking chair glued to Fox and Friends is no way to go through life. Reality is going to be unkind to people like you.

Geriatric relics imagining the world as an old black and white movie, where Americans, of course are always the good guys. Refusing to admit that every country since the Marshall Plan on the receiving end of US “help” winds up destroyed.

Your view of the world is being buried.

“You do realize that Kiev was the birthplace of Russia”

About as much as London was the birthplace of the USA. According to your “logic” US has the right to invade and annex Great Britain.

...every country since the Marshall Plan on the receiving end of US “help” winds up destroyed.

And to think, if they had gone to Russia for help instead they could have followed the Guinea-Bissau model of development.

Or ended up like Ukraine with the Russian military helpfully assisting with the harvest.

You want a link to where Putin said that Ukraine is an artificial and ahistorical nation invented by Polish elites, members of the “Little Russian (Ukrainian)” intelligentsia, and the Austrian-Hungarian government in a scheme to break up the Russian Empire? Where he said that the Ukrainian language is just a dialect of Russian and not a separate language? Where he said the Russians, Ukrainians, and Belarusians are a single people? Well, here you go:

All good and fine, but this was the CLAIM:

“Putin has openly stated his belief that Ukraine...should belong to Russia.”

The other stuff, that Ukraine is an artificial nations, that’s obviously to anyone without blinders.

“French president François Hollande and German chancellor Angela Merkel put forth a new peace plan on 7 February.”

Good enough for me. NATO had its fingerprints ALL OVER IT.

That’s is a Putinist fairy tale. Ukraine is a backwater. Obama sent blankets in 2014 after Putin invaded with the Russian army. Biden refused Ukraine aid last year while partnering with Putin on a plan to bust Trump’s Iran policy. The WEF and Biden can’t wait to get back to business as almost usual with fascist Russia. That is where the real corrupt money is to be made.

I’m glad you’re now on the record agreeing with Putin that Ukraine is an artificial nation and Ukrainians are really only Russians who speak a regional dialect. That explains everything about your view on the war.

This war is not about “denazification”, “desatanization”, biolabs, or NATO expansion. This is a war about Ukrainian and Russian national identities.

"Yep, and MANY HERE don’t have your experience and simply REFUSE to understand what you just stated."

Are we the only 2 left that understand Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD)?

If you are a Russian speaker in a currently occupied area of Ukraine and the Russians decide to pull out for the winter you have two choices... stay and be killed or evacuate to a Russian controlled area. Even posters who have been riding on the “the big guy’s” Ukrainian war train knows that this is 100% true.

Russia has said it will provide grain to the poor nations for free...not to worry.

Meanwhile another Western lie about the need to open a humanitarian corridor for gain has been exposed.

No, that’s NOT 100% true. That’s just more Kremlin propaganda.

LOL, but for some reason Ukrainians, including ethnic Russians, are fighting like hell for that 'artificial nation'.

Let’s see, the Rooski’s are going to confiscate Ukrainian grain at gunpoint and send it to poor countries for free?

How about they confiscate YOUR property at gunpoint and send it to poor countries for free?

(Yeah, I know, but at least we elect the people who tax us.)

...there is certainly no evidence that you are a conservative who values culture and civilization.

Why do you think that people who are opposed to Russia invading a neighboring country don't value culture and civilization? Russia's attack on Ukraine, and its soldiers acts of violence against civilians are not what any sane person would call "culture" or "civilization".

What kind of conservative supports targeting civilians, murdering innocent men. women and children, and raping teenage girls?
