Racist tweets quickly surface after Musk closes Twitter deal (Wapo alert)

An emboldened cast of anonymous trolls spewed racist slurs and Nazi memes onto Twitter in the hours after billionaire industrialist Elon Musk took over the social network, raising fears that his pledge of unrestricted free speech could fuel a new wave of online hate.

The flood of racist posts was among the most prominent signs of how Twitter had changed in the first hours of Musk’s ownership. But those who were expecting even bigger changes, such as the restoration of former president Donald Trump’s account and the layoff of hundreds if not thousands of Twitter employees, will have to wait longer.

Musk on Friday tweeted that he would make “no major content decisions or account reinstatements” until the convening of a new “moderation council.” He promised that the council would have “widely diverse viewpoints” but offered no other information about who would be on it, how its members would be selected, what authority it would have or whether its views would be binding on the company.

Stating uncomfortable truths about members of protected groups is classified as hate speech by propaganda outlets like the Post. How many of the offending tweets/posts fit that profile?

It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.

unrestricted free speech could fuel a new wave of online hate.

Oh noes! The take away is the WaPo opposes unrestricted free speech. WaPo supports censorship.

The self appointed elite have taught generations now how to be weak, be vulnerable and to lack resilience in the face of WORDS FROM STRANGERS.

They’re taught how to be, to think, to react like victims confronted with words from strangers. And not even up front language, but to be paranoid and hyper alert for “micro aggressions.”

This is not healthy for them and not healthy for society. How can diverse people live in peace and prosper if they are taught to be suspicious of others (Blacks seeing all whites as closet racists) and be suspicious of themselves?

The pressure from financially motivated activists have Whites seeing themselves as privileged, personally guilty and responsible for evils hundreds of years ago based on their skin tone, and feeling they can never bond with Blacks because the Black community will always see them as secret racists not as judge them as individuals. There’s no personal responsibility only victim shaming.

“unrestricted free speech could fuel a new wave of online hate”. I would say that Wapo and NYT have spewed more than their fair share of online heat without restriction for the last several years.

Exactly. It’s like most other things in life: people, stores, opinions, restaurants, etc......if it/they offend you just roll on with your life. Free speech means just that. Why can’t some people understand that extremely simple concept?

Sticks and stones? For crying out loud, free speech is full of racism and hate for someone and something. The tolerance for insults is a mark of maturity

I see black on non-black racism on national TV everyday.

It's usually disguised as humor, but it's racism.

As a result, black humor is getting less and less funny all the time.

>>There may be a few conservative racists, but I suspect 99% of these posts are by Leftists trying to embarrass Musk.

Yep, and lots of them done by disgruntled twitter employees using one of their many accounts to embarrass him before they are fired.

That said, how hard would it be too simply automatically ban (for a certain amount of days) any account that uses any banned words (can’t think of others offhand) - that feature could be developed in days. And then permanently ban any account that keeps doing it.

The racist tweets were posted precisely so the left could claim that twitter had become a racist cesspool.

The Washington rag doesn’t explain how the new owner could have made it that way during his first day.

This signals the left that it must now attack twitter and never stop saying it has become a racist cesspool. The only ones posting racist stuff are democrats.

If democrats don’t like reality they create a fiction that substitutes for reality, and then they believe their fiction as if it were reality.
