I bet it didn’t take John D. Rockefeller a decade to build his refineries. Hmm, I wonder, just wonder what really stands in the way? (Rhetorical question)

Attach an extension cord with multiple plugs.

Well, okay. As long as I don’t have to pay for the extension cord, says the fiscal conservative RINO.

That was then. In my Long Island town it’s taken longer to build a four story parking garage at the LIRR station than it took to build the Empire State Building.

Some friends are building their retirement house in the Carmel Valley (inland from Monterey, CA). It took them *two years* to get the permits.

Mutual friends I just saw asked how long it would take us to get permits for something like that. I’m in the Atlanta area. I told them if I had plans and the land was already appropriately zoned (likely), probably two weeks at worst.

If the Chicoms can build an artificial island complete with an airfield and all the trimmings in international waters, why not a group of investors with a refinery? I don't know how big of a footprint a refinery has, but I'm sure it could be scaled to produce specific fuels.

Yeah, I know, but a kid can dream?

That’s exactly right, like the Chevron CEO said the USA will never build another refinery because of the cost and length of time to build one, the company will never see a positive ROI.

It’s not over until it’s over.

Correct, and that is why we must get a conservative congress and Trump in 2024.

Without adequate and inexpensive energy, you are nothing.

Every thing is dependent on energy.

Have we reached “peak stoopidness” yet?

No. Not until only woke subjects are taught on all schools, all levels by law, with no exceptions.

That or Chinese becomes the national language.

This is a national security issue.

Our "leaders" aren't taking care of national security.

I lived out there in the early/mid 50’s. There used to be a two room school house. 1-6th grade in one and 7-12 in the other. We drove through there a couple years ago and it ain’t there now. Not a lot of new houses either. We lived above what used to be the Holt ranch. Now, I wouldn’t take a house for free in cali. Even in Carmel Valley. 😎👍

“Oil and gas companies would have to weigh the benefits of committing capital ten years out that will need decades to offer a return to shareholders”

About a decade ago I read that a new refinery cost $10 billion to build, staff and start refining. It would also take that refinery 30 years to pay for itself and start turning consistent profits.
Talk about a long term investment!

“in a policy environment where governments around the world are saying ‘we don’t want these products to be used in the future,’”

The final nail in the coffin.
It doesn’t matter that there is no replacement for petroleum fuels, the government is going to make it impossible for investors in petroleum to realize a return on investment.
Throw in talk about nationalising the oil industry and We the People are properly forked.

Back in the 90’s, I was working for a company that manufactured parts for refineries. We had an office in Caracas. I met two of the guys that worked down there. They were living large back then. When Chavez nationalized the refineries it started to fall down. Chavez stole the assets that belonged to Chevron, Exxon and others and put political hacks in top positions. Maintenance was the first thing to go. None of these hacks knew the first thing about running a refinery.

That has been obvious for months. If the woke perfumed princes running the Pentagon, including the Joint Chiefs, really gave a damn about national security, they’d be speaking out loudly and resigning over Biden selling off the National Petroleum Reserve. That they have not says it all.
