That was all lies. Always. “Free Speech”. Remember that? They even had a “movement” for Free Speech - at Berkely. Of course, that was when the leftists were out of power. “I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

That’s all gone, now. Because, they are in power. “Democracy is like riding the bus. When you get to your destination, you get off.” See also: Guns. Leftist don’t hate guns, they hate you. They don’t want you to have a gun, that’s all. Also, Corporations. Leftism famously had an anti-corporate streak. Now today some of the large tech outlets are run by leftists. Corporations are totes groovy.

They were never “antiwar”, maybe some percentage I suppose. They just didn’t want anyone fighting marxist communism fascist nazi totalitarian style authoritarians.

Speaking of, note well everything they accuse republicans of, for the last 80 years or so up until today, describes them to a “T”. It’s really quite surreal and getting more disturbing by the day in recent years.

In Stunning Strategy Reversal, Pentagon Will No Longer Rule Out Use Of Nuclear Weapons Against Non-Nuclear Threat

https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/stunning-strategy-reversal-pentagon-will-no-longer-rule-out-use-nuclear-weapons-against-non

Moments ago, as part of his closely-watched speech, Vladimir Putin appeared to talk down the likelihood of a nuclear attack in Ukraine:

Which, however, is more than can be said about the US.

As Bloomberg just reported, the Pentagon’s new National Defense Strategy rejects limits on using nuclear weapons long championed by arms control advocates (and, in the not too distant past, by Joe Bide) citing burgeoning threats from Russia and China.

“By the 2030s the United States will, for the first time in its history face two major nuclear powers as strategic competitors and potential adversaries,” the Defense Department said in the long-awaited document issued Thursday. In response, the US will “maintain a very high bar for nuclear employment” without ruling out using the weapons in retaliation to a non-nuclear strategic threat to the homeland, US forces abroad or allies.

In yet another stark reversal for the senile occupant of the White House basement, in his 2020 presidential campaign Biden had pledged to declare that the US nuclear arsenal should be used only to deter or retaliate against a nuclear attack, a position blessed by progressive Democrats and reviled by defense hawks.

It’s so typical of the Kremlin to make demands on those it victimizes. That is upside down abuser logic at its finest. Sadly, there is nothing to negotiate here. Russia’s imperial army must be bled out in the mud of Ukraine until Russia collapses. Again.

Putin today:

“The only real guarantor of the sovereignty and state integrity of Ukraine could only be Russia, which created today’s Ukraine”

yYou two do realize that the US was negotiating with Japan towards the end of the war? Hardliners who didn’t want to negotiate were responsible for the US dropping atomic bombs.

Yes, and that's a great example of exactly what I'm talking about, so let's discuss it.

First, it should be pointed out that the Soviets were involved in those negotiations, but deliberately negotiated in bad faith. Their goal was to extend the war as long as possible so they would have time to seize Japanese possessions in Manchuria and on Sakhalin.

Second, the negotiations that did occur were not face to face between the US and Japan, but rather amounted to exchanges of written proposals that were then debated internally. The Potsdam Declaration was actually one of the public proposal by the Allies.

So let's use that as a template. If Russia wants to send a written peace proposal to Ukraine, there is absolutely nothing preventing it. They can even make it public if they'd like.

That doesn't sound like a very promising initial proposal for peace negotiations....

Hush. You are supposed to just accept that demanding Ukrainian capitulation is the same thing as “just seeking peace”. Don’t question the narrative.

“No, one side refuses to negotiate at all....”

They simply refuse to negotiate at gunpoint. If Russia wants to negotiate, then Russia can send its army back to Russia first.

“Those days when Russia had any ideas of expansion are long gone and over with...”

Sure, that’s why Russia, since the fall of the Soviet Union, has invaded Georgia (twice), Moldova, Chechnya, Dagestan, and Ukraine (twice). Because they have given up on expansion or reclaiming their former Soviet subjects.

NATO has expanded far more than Russia.

Comparing an alliance that expands by voluntary admission with a conquering state that subjugates its neighbors is just silly.
