I served on a slightly newer aircraft carrier(CVN 68) The commanding officers(CO and XO) were top notch. I went through a couple of them while on board. That said, at the departmental level, that wasn’t necessarily the case. I had an outgoing departmental head (Lt. Commander) tell me to lay low because the new incoming department head was an asshole. Yes...it kind of runs the gamut, doesn’t it? You just have to go with the flow, because you can’t control it. Funny. We had a division officer we just worshiped, the guy was a real leader and we just followed him like ducks...:)
I spent about a month (I think) on the Eisenhower (CVN 69) when she was pretty new.
