This article doesn’t go far enough. Drag has its roots in the blackface minstrel shows of the 1800’s, with exaggerated depictions of what black people are like. The male actors began also dressing up as women in blackface, and at the turn of the century dropped the black part of it. There is an extreme hatred of women in the drag community and that’s why they do it.

This is the first I've heard of that angle! Maybe that will gain some traction, since nothing else seems to, even in the face of what looks to me to be an obvious utter travesty.

You nailed it. Those drag performances are a way to mock women through satire. By causing more men to have a low opinion of women, it recruits fresh greenhorns of the rump rider cult.
