A new Civil War is going to be a thing far easier said than done. That’s because the old one occurred when the federal government had not enacted the vast number of social programs that knit this country together. Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid are the 3 biggest a Civil War would totally disrupt their administration and hurt a lot more people than just the individuals who are cut off. Thus, there are powerful incentives for there not to be the kind of thing that occurred in the 19th century. If something on the order of the Civil War happens, it will probably be a brutal guerrilla war with lots of midnight assassinations, house burnings, and general private destruction.
