Prosecutors said Smart was killed during an attempted rape by then Cal Poly classmate Paul Flores. His father had been accused of helping dispose of the body, which was never found.
A California man has been convicted of killing Kristin Smart, a college student who disappeared in 1996, and his father was found not guilty by a separate jury of disposing of her body.
Paul Flores was found guilty Tuesday of first-degree murder and faces 25 years to life. His father, Ruben Flores, had been charged with accessory after the fact. He faced up to three years in prison. A spokesperson with the Monterey County Superior Court confirmed the split verdicts Tuesday.

His father guilty too. Not of the murder but of the coverup.
Accusations are nice but I still haven’t heard what the evidence was in this case.
They never found her body, so it wasn’t that.
I hope it’s not another show trial that’ll be overturned on appeal for lack of evidence and prosecutorial misconduct. Flores is no pillar of the community but that alone does not make him a murderer.
Agreed, but the jury decided to let dear ol’ dad off the hook. Maybe they, the jury got deliberated…
