Russia said on Tuesday that four Ukrainian regions whose annexation it proclaimed last month are under the protection of its nuclear arsenal.
The statement from the Kremlin came at a moment of acute tension, with both NATO and Russia expected to hold military exercises shortly to test the readiness of their nuclear weapons forces.
Asked by reporters if the regions were under Moscow's nuclear umbrella, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: "All these territories are inalienable parts of the Russian Federation and they are all protected. Their security is provided for at the same level as [it is for] the rest of Russia's territory."

Does an informal representation to the head of a government that is now defunct as to the intentions of a President and Secretary of State who are no long in office bind the the US and their successors in office? Nope. Not one bit. Not legally, not morally, and not in any practical sense.
Putin is playing nuclear blackmail because the international community rejects his violations of international law. Since Kiev/Kyiv is the heart of old Rus civilization, nuking Ukraine is a very odd idea, especially if Putin wants to rule it.
Show me the treaty. Once again show me ANY of the main players there who have said it was in regard to NATO expansion past East Germany. Lets recap, again, James Baker, Gorbachev, the President of the Soviet Union and Former Soviet Foreign Minister Eduard Shevardnadze ALL AGREE DISCUSSIONS WERE ONLY ABOUT EAST GERMANY and that's what the final treaty says(no NATO troops in former East Germany): 'Treaty on the Final Settlement with Respect to Germany'
In fact Gorbachev points out it would have been stupid to negotiate about NATO expansion past East Germany SINCE THE SOVIET UNION HAD NOT YET DISSOLVED.
"Not a singe Eastern European country raised the issue, not even after the Warsaw Pact ceased to exist in 1991. Western leaders didn’t bring it up, either. Another issue we brought up was discussed: making sure that NATO’s military structures would not advance and that additional armed forces from the alliance would not be deployed on the territory of the then-GDR after German reunification. Baker’s statement, mentioned in your question, was made in that context."

As the famous hilarious Clinton asked, "at this point, what difference does it make?"
Given the Biden regime, the current Democrat Party and the Democratic Socialists of America ( https://www.dsausa.org/ ), not to mention major universities, and some media, it seems your answer answers itself in a most ironic manner.
Time to concentrate on the Communist takeover of our nation first.
NATO during the Clinton regime bombed Serbia for almost three months, and today discusses putting "peacekeeping forces" -- i.e. military troops -- in Bosnia-Herzegovina, which is not as yet a NATO member. Parsing the "who said what to whom" is all very nice, but "not legally, not morally, and not in any practical sense" also applies. To both sides, however one determines the sides to be. Given the potential of BRICS, as billions in population, move away from the West in terms of banking and more, "practical sense" seems MIA. What is certain is that Biden most recently said the US must "lead" the "liberal world order." Not my choice. I do want a "leader" to being with. "...in any practical sense."
An excellent response. How about the treaty between NATO and Ukraine? Or the US and Ukraine? There are some treaties between the US and Russia, so "show me the treaty" is always a fine notion.
Sweden and Finland are currently members of NATO?
Do you have a count of the number of times you’ve made that same post?
It’s time to create a private discussion thread where those who take this conflict personally can go and hurl borscht at each other other off to the side.
Either that or grab your camo and volunteer for your side.
Moreover, like it or not, by default the US often has to lead. Whether in a street fight or in a crisis abroad, the big, strong kid gets looked to for leadership. The big strong kid in the world these days is the United States. And as in a street fight, even if you would prefer to stay out, one tends to get drawn in when your friends need your help.

Well they have already taken over America and we didn’t stop them.
A fascinating remark. Which "street fight" at a global level have we Americans won in the last three decades?
Still, not my circus and not my monkeys. Nor my friends.
Furthermore the Donbas region is culturely Russian with a majority Russian speaking population.
And the Irish Republic is mostly English speakers, so should they be forced to join Britain?
How about the 1994 Budapest Memorandum, where Russia, the UK, and the US guaranteed Ukraine’s borders in return for Ukraine giving up its nuclear weapons. Russia has violated every commitment it pledged in the memorandum. The US and the UK pledged to support Ukraine in the event of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Ukraine, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the United States of America,
Welcoming the Accession of Ukraine to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons as a non-nuclear-weapon state,
Taking into account the commitment of Ukraine to eliminate all nuclear weapons from its territory within a specified period of time,
Noting the changes in the world-wide security situation, including the end of the Cold War, which have brought about conditions for deep reductions in nuclear forces,
Confirm the following:
1. The Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and The United States of America reaffirm their commitment to Ukraine, in accordance with the principles of the CSCE Final Act, to respect the independence and sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine.
2. The Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and The United States of America reaffirm their obligation to refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Ukraine, and that none of their weapons will ever be used against Ukraine except in self-defense or otherwise in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations.
3. The Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and The United States of America reaffirm their commitment to Ukraine, in accordance with the Principles of the CSCE Final Act, to refrain from economic coercion designed to subordinate to their own interest the exercise by Ukraine of the rights inherent in its sovereignty and thus to secure advantages of any kind.
4. The Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and The United States of America reaffirm their commitment to seek immediate United Nations Security Council action to provide assistance to Ukraine, as a non-nuclear-weapon state party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, if Ukraine should become a victim of an act of aggression or an object of a threat of aggression in which nuclear weapons are used.
5. The Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and The United States of America reaffirm, in the case of Ukraine, their commitment not to use nuclear weapons against any non-nuclear-weapon state party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, except in the case of an attack on themselves, their territories or dependent territories, their armed forces, or their allies, by such a state in association or alliance with a nuclear weapon state.
6. Ukraine, The Russian Federation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and The United States of America will consult in the event a situation arises which raises a question concerning these commitments.
This Memorandum will become applicable upon signature.
Signed in four copies having equal validity in the Ukrainian, English, and Russian languages.

Budapest, 5 December 1994.
Actually, we have won a lot more fights than we have lost, and even the losses tend to be qualified or, like the Korean War, are victories in disguise in that they are incorrectly often seen as draws or losses. That is why the US has lots of friends in the world — to the extend that, like it or not, we run the circus and sometimes have to make the monkeys behave and go back into their cages.
No...Britain needs to GTFO and Northern Ireland needs to rejoin the rest of their country...just like Russian Donbas
