Gina Montalto’s parents simply clutched hands and cried as it was announced Thursday that a Florida jury recommended the Parkland school shooter should not be condemned to death.
Tony Montalto, Gina’s father and president of the advocacy group Stand with Parkland, called it “yet another gut punch for so many of us who devastatingly lost our loved ones on that tragic Valentine’s Day at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.”
“Seventeen beautiful lives were cut short, by murder, and the monster that killed them gets to live to see another day,” Montalto said in a statement, echoing the sentiments of other stunned family members who bowed or shook their heads in disbelief at the decision.

He’ll be out someday.
Are the people who ignored the warning signs going to be punished?
They can still have someone do him like they did Dahmer in prison.
Jurors have addresses just like everyone else.
I’m just saying.
L
What good is that going to do? It sounds like three jurors voted against the death penalty, but it could have gone the other way, except for one hard no.
Like the families of those killed by Nikolas Cruz, I watched most of the testimony.
It is a miscarriage of justice for one or more jurors to ignore the compelling evidence presented and to deny giving Cruz the death penalty.
As others have said. What does it take to sentence a killer to death????
Desantis said it was a single juror. 11 wanted the death penalty but one held out
That’s what I, and another poster, said on an earlier thread. (essentially)
Sorry, Alex Jones has only got so much money.
What did everybody expect? This is Broward County, full of cry baby liberals. They should change the name to Coward County.
That one deranged juror needs to be tghroroughly investigated to see if the juror has a history of opposition to the use of the death penalty.
One would hope that jurors were selected among those who claimed under oath that they had no general opposition to the death penalty as a punishment.
The father implied it was because of the mitigating circumstances presented.
Put him in general population and he'll be out in no time...to the funeral home.
Does that matter completely? My understanding is it’s far worse to be on death row than in the regular prison. Also it, it’s probably more likely they will rain in jail for life. I think Nikolas Cruz will get.
If he is, I predict he won’t last long.
He deserved the death penalty, but he would be sitting on death row for decades of appeals before his execution would ever happen. Justice would be a quick round of appeals and his date with death before the end of next year. However, one could hope that other inmates might serve out their justice on a child killer.
Death row is a much worse place to be that prison. Ghislaine Maxwell is “imprisoned” at a resort. Nikolas Cruz may end up there.
Ghislaine Maxwell is still alive.
