“This is why the former Soviet Union and the USA were both careful about both their actions and language about such situations. “

The bombing begins in 5 minutes?

Sorry, I couldn’t help it. Just being a smart a** to your knowledgeable post.

There’s a wing of the American political establishment that John Mearsheimer calls something like “the global dominionists”. Neoconservatives and their Democratic party twins.

These are influential and powerful people that we may not pay close attention to but the Russians do.

The “global dominionists” have had plans for Russia for a long time, long before this Ukrainian war. They want regime change followed by dismantling Russia into smaller independent countries.

Putin pays attention to them and takes them seriously. So does every other Russian nationalist interested in preserving Russia as a functioning country. It’s not just Putin. So they tend to see what we are doing in Ukraine as a real and present danger and part of this grander strategy for their destruction. And if they ever think that they are defending their very survival as a nation that’s when people with atomic bombs are liable to use them.

Yes, that said why would any rational person try to produce this outcome:
So they tend to see what we are doing in Ukraine as a real and present danger and part of this grander strategy for their destruction. And if they ever think that they are defending their very survival as a nation that’s when people with atomic bombs are liable to use them.

the goal of the universal borderless world globalists is, I presume, to prevail over time with a carrot and stick strategy. A nuclear exchange cannot be considered in any rational framework to be prevailing.

“ Any nuke use will lead to a worldwide thermonuclear exchange. Not true at all.”

Madness.
You are saying it’s ok to use just a small nuke .
That’s utter madness, you have ZERO assurance it won’t stop with one.
It’s pure evil to soft play and gain acceptance to use a nuclear weapon.
Prying the gates of hell open just a bit is madness.

Actually, we bombed Serbia to smithereens (including civilian infrastructure) in 1999. We actively helped the Croats ethnically cleanse the Krajina in 1995 (largest ethnic cleansing of the conflicts in former Yugoslavia up to that point — the ethnic cleansing during the 1999 bombing campaign topped that one, though). Ain’t we civilized? “Rules-based international order” indeed. More like rules for the but not for me.

Probably for the same reason that they talked Dubya into regime change in Iraq. Hubris. “The End of History”. They aren’t rational. They are fools and dangerous ones because think that they can control the outcome of wars without the other side getting a vote.

That would mean at least some of these people literally believe they are the ‘Masters of the Universe’. There is a Grand Canyon of space between attacking and invading the hapless Iraq of 2003 and even the smallest nuclear exchange.

“You are saying it’s ok to use just a small nuke.”

Not at all. I’m just saying that nobody will *do* anything, except flap their lips, if the Russians use one when leaving Ukraine. The point is *not* that using nukes is a bad thing; it is. The point is that there is little or nothing we, or anyone else, can do about it.

If there is, or you think there is, something you think we should or could do, please enlighten us.

I think that they do. And right now they think that they can bleed Russia with impunity using Ukraine as a proxy. If they guess wrong Russia might decide that they have to go after the puppet master to ensure their own survival.

I love your memes. They say it all. You have to laugh now and then about this or you’ll go crazy, or at the very least not be able to sleep at night.

The good thing about a total nuclear war is we won’t have to be shipped off to the camps. Another good thing is the Great Reset will be paused for a few centuries as humanity reverts back to the Stone Age.

Any use of any nuclear device would cross “The Red Line” and light the fuse to more and more nukes in a game of tit-for-tat on a global scales. Bombing of cities in WW2 started by Germany mistaking bombed Coventry.

Damned if I want to risk glowing for this corrupt country.

Ever heard of the attack on Guernica, Spain? They were strategically bombed in 1937. Coventry wasn’t bombed until 1940.

You are correct but that was a civil war in Spain.

It didn’t start WW2 although there were plenty of outsiders giving aid and “volunteers” to each side.

Yes, but the attack by the Luftwaffe is regarded as the first use of strategic bombing, and there was great international hue and cry about it, which intensified when Picasso created his painting “Guernica”.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strategic_bombing

Not ironically, strategic bombing, which before had been shunned as a war crime, soon became the norm in WWII.

The similarities between Spain then and Ukraine now are strong. Again, I don’t see any suggestion that other nations, especially the US, would see any value in using a tactical nuke against Russia.

So it would likely be “one and done”.

In normal times lead by normal, responsible men, I’d agree but....

Oh, and per your link, “terror bombing” existed in WW1, by both sides using zeppelins. Debatable how effective though it was a glimpse of things to come.
