Florida's candidates for governor are set to go head-to-head on some of the top issues that are on voters' minds.

Incumbent Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis and his Democratic rival Charlie Crist have agreed on a date for a debate.

The candidates will meet for a single public debate on Oct. 24.

The debate will be held at the Sunrise Theatre in Fort Pierce.

It was originally scheduled for Oct. 12 but was changed due to recovery efforts following Hurricane Ian.

DeSantis will wipe the floor with Crist. Recall a debate when Crist insisted on a fan at his podium because he sweats like a pig when he is nervous.

The debate will be held at the Sunrise Theatre in Fort Pierce.

A dinky place, like the Polk Theatre in my county. They should have held it at a ritzier place like the Stratz in Tampa or the Bob Carr in Orlando, but it probably doesn't matter, there aren't any undecideds in FL: no one is voting for Crist, only voters for DeSantis and those against him.

Is Crist still sporting a George Hamilton tan?

I hope DeSantis does better against Crist than he did against Gillum.

No and he came within a hair of losing to Gillum in the election.

Ft. Pierce, spent 25 Christmas weeks there at my brother-in-laws place, playing golf and fishing.

He had a 26' boat but preferred to fish from the beach or off the many bridges and jetties.

Back in the 70s and 80s the fishing was fantastic and anyone with a hook and a plastic worm could feed a family with fresh fish.

I loved smoked whiting and the snook was almost as good as cold water walleye.

The Navy Seals have a museum at Ft. Pierce and it is worth the visit because it is rich in the original history of the Seals.

Those guys are something very special [oh, yeah, the debate...DeSantis will cold cock him in the first round, if christ even shows].

DeSantis is up by a dozen points, why bother, except to widen the margin?

It’s still snook season maybe they both have the special permits and can get some fishing in.

Fort Pierce is the birth place of the Navy SEALS. Training for D Day took place on our beaches. My late hubs grew up here and he would tell me stories he had heard from the older residents who took part in that training or knew those who had. The major impression, “The mosquitos!” Swarms of them made being on the beach at night unfit for man or beast.

I guess they don’t want a large audience there. This is a local theater downtown Fort Pierce. About 12 miles from my home

Suspect the event is minimized due to post-storm optics. Not an appropriate time for large numbers of well-heeled patrons strutting around while so many Floridians are suffering.

Televised state-wide, realistically could be an empty venue.
