After the shooting outside his home, Rep. Lee Zeldin’s fight is clearer than ever

If you were making a movie about the underdog politician campaigning on soaring crime rates, you couldn’t have scripted it better than the shooting right in front of Lee Zeldin’s Long Island home Sunday afternoon.

Of course, it’s the last thing the Republican gubernatorial candidate and his wife, Diana, could ever have wanted.

Their twin 16-year-old daughters, Mikayla and Arianna, were home alone studying in the rear kitchen of the modest two-story house in the town of Shirley when they heard gunshots and screams right outside their front door.

The quick-thinking girls raced upstairs, locked themselves in a bathroom and called 911, and police soon found two unidentified shooting victims lying injured in the bushes below the front porch. A bullet was found nearby, just 30 feet from where Mikayla and Arianna had been sitting.

Once he had ensured the safety of his children, Zeldin knew exactly what to say: “My daughters are shaken, but OK. Like so many New Yorkers, crime has literally made its way to our front door.”

He told The Post last night on the phone that the girls were understandably “freaked out.”

“It hits us close to home when you read stories of other families being impacted by crime, when young innocent kids have been exposed to crime that they’ll never forget for the rest of their lives.

“Something bold and significant needs to be done to make life in New York safe again. It’s not just a story we read about every few days or weeks. This is happening throughout the day, every day, in New York. It hits as close as it gets when it shows up at your front doorstep.”

This is one bizarre Governor’s race. Hopefully Zeldin will get enough votes to counteract Democrat cheating.

Unless Lee Zeldin is elected governor, he needs to get the hell out of New York and find another job. It’s not worth the lives of your loved ones to stay in that sewer of crime and corruption.

Glad all are safe.

This jogged my memory to the George W days when the Iraqi woman claimed US soldiers shot up her house.

She and her family posed for a similar photo in which she held up the “bullets that almost killed her”. Unfired 556 rounds.

If Leldin were a D, I’d expect the same thing. “Look what they did to my daughter’s pants!”

“police soon found two unidentified shooting victims lying injured in the bushes below the front porch.”

Are they still unidentified?

Who shot them?

It was a gang shooting. No connection to Zeldin. Just a weird coincidence.

Gangs are everywhere. Cartel is everywhere. Six million new invaders pouring into America unchecked. Nay, more like welcomed. Our cities are unlivable. The more chaos the better.
This must not stand.

Yep, a deep Blue state needs to do the unthinkable, elect Republicans.

What? This cannot be New York. I read the entire article, and this person did NOT call for “more gun control”.

He’s running against a terrible appointee appointed by the former disgraced exiled shoved- out Governor

She is destroying NY with anti constitutional orders and allowing NYC to be ruined

And he calls himself the underdog. He’s out there with his traumatized family acting like a victim

THIS is why New York is a disaster. Good men who do nothing

This reactionary wimp who shoved out Andrew Giuliani in the primaries. AG would have done something

For the past half-century, today, and for the next half-century, all Democrats/RINOs throughout our country will continue mindlessly referring to it as "Gun Violence" that's sweeping the nation. As though the guns themselves are literally walking the streets firing themselves at gang members as well as at innocent people.

You still see inner-city residents loudly complaining but not about their totally incompetent, useless Democrat mayors and Administrations they voted in office. The complainers say they can't expect their Democrat city/state leaders, their Soros-paid DAs (who refuse to prosecute criminals), and their Democrat city/state governments to do anything about the "gun violence" - it's totally beyond their control. So obviously, the federal government is responsible and must ban all guns. As always, all Democrats/RINOs are loudly screaming that they're totally dependent on the "federal government" to "solve" their problems. But the government is guilty of playing a big role in creating the nation's inner-city out-of-control violence, beginning with its Democrat LBJ Great Welfare State six decades ago: You don't need a man to help raise a family. You just need a mom and her husband/provider will be LBJ's Great Welfare State. So single moms can have as many kids as they want, with as many different "fathers" as they want, all totally paid for by the federal government. Those many different "fathers" love it because they have no responsibility for raising their own kids. The "streets" will raise their kids (aka, the local drug dealers) and the federal government will pay for them. As President Reagan said, the federal government is not the solution, it's the problem.

Before the Democrat LBJ's Great Welfare State disaster, black families were actually solid back in the 40's and 50's. Back then, they didn't have out-of-control gangs of young black guys wildly roaming the streets randomly shooting anyone they saw. Hey clueless Democrats/RINOs: Why not? Because they mostly had two-parent households. (File that in your folder labeled, "DUH!") A-hole Democrats/RINOs.

Shirley was a ghetto 40 years ago.
Maybe better today.

We had a guy in Boulder, Co. claim that someone from our range (three miles away in the opposite direction) shot his house. He presented the Sheriff’s deputy with and unfired 30.06 round. The deputy arrested him.

Shirley has a “white trash” reputation today. But if you have a recording studio in your neighborhood, you’d better be ready for the type of people it attracts.

And next time if the criminal decides to invade our home instead of the area nearby, my two dear daughters have informed me each will take one shot for each testicle of the invader. That kind of sharing and cooperation brings tears to their dad’s eyes, I must admit. Their practice range time was well worth every penny.
