It will remain a monument to government stupidity.

True.

Interestingly, when the Bullet Train was submitted to voters, the proponents actually wrote the performance standards into the Proposition (Train Speed, and Travel time Station to Station), to generate public trust, as the California public was opting to use the Initiative, Referendum and Recall processes because of their distrust of politicians.

Since then, all three have been co opted by the State.

yet another illustration as to why government shouldn’t run healthcare.

just think how many welfare perks that takes away from all the illegals

Not to worry, new Railroad Workers United rules require an old Santa Fe boxcar in every Bullet Train for the Illegals to use.

Squeeze Six for me!

We have a couple of monopoly games here.

I have a still running XP system that runs a legacy Windows version I always liked.

Whatever...I am so happy we have similar goals in Texas...to run a bullet train from Dallas to Austin and/or Houston!

I don’t mean the actual running of the train...I mean the multimillion-dollar boondoggle where they steal people’s land then hold it for 30 years, while they never build anything and if they do complete it, no one will ever ride the stupid thing!!

I feel so privileged to be living in this day and age...no one could ever believe the level of stupidity with which we will describe the current elitists, if not for these perfect debacle demonstrations!!

An airplane takes you to San Francisco from Los Angeles in
just under an hour and a half. The planned time for a bullet
train trip would be just under three hours.

Why would anyone want to take the train?

Heaven only knows what the cost would be.

Maybe it’s because they plan on doing away with air travel
due to fake environmental concerns.

Big airlines are cutting routes. I’ve seen it speculated
that within ten years air travel will be so sparse and
expensive that for all intents and purposes the general
public will no long have that as an option. Sounds kind
of crazy to me, but it seems like the early stages to set
that up may be taking place now, and we know what the
environmental extremists will be demanding.

If we were serious about high speed trains in this country, and I know that many of us fantasize about cross country train journeys at 150mph with a cocktail in our hands, we would use the existing interstate infrastructure to build them out.

This would necessitate at least tripling the width of all interstate highways. Have at least three lanes in each direction for cars. Have at least two lanes in each direction dedicated for tractor-trailer trucks. Then right in the middle, put in some high speed rails.

Interstates are already built and graded to minimize sharp turns and steep inclines. Perfect for trains.

Have massive "rest areas" every 10 miles or so where truckers can park and sleep, car drivers can get food and rest, or where people can simply park their cars and jump on a train. And speaking of rest areas, they need not be nothing but fast food places and smelly bathrooms with sketchy vending machines. Put some gourmet restaurants in there. Some movie theaters. Nightclubs. Dive bars. Water parks. Hotels. Mini golf courses. I would not even object to Chuck-E-Cheese.

Make rest areas a destination of themselves!

So if I wanted to go to San Diego from Connecticut, I could park my car near Danbury on I-84 and jump on a train that will carry me anywhere I wanted to go that has an interstate highway.

This will be a massive public works project that will be a better use of our tax dollar money then spending it on third world cesspools and corrupt politicians.

Most Futurists that have been raised in the Golden Age of Ease (Baby Boomers and subsequent generations) do not consider Efficiency in their dreaming of What Can Be Done.

Opportunist cheats have used this to loot the Public Treasury, Public Resources, and enthusiastic supporters of infrastructure progress.

Railroads are one of the most economical forms of transportation, but generally not at extremely high speeds.

Air travel time includes arriving at the airport 1-2 hours early, and dealing with the TSA.

For the bullet train you’ll be seeing something along those
lines also.

I’ve not shown up for a flight more than an hour ahead. I
could have shown up one half our ahead most of the time.
As for the BT, I suspect you’ll have to add on at least a
half hour.

A lot of the small distance flights are catering to the
business community. They fly up and do business, then
fly back home the same day. The bullet train travel
time will make things a lot more difficult.

If you lose this crowd, you’ve lost half of your daily
business. They may never change over unless
forced to.

If the bullet train’s final cost comes in under $200
billion, I’ll be somewhat surprised. Unless the state
and federal government are going to subsidize the train,
the fares will be be considerably more than a regular
train fare.

I think the cost of operating the BT would be
considerably more.

It would be interesting to know what percentage would
be tourists just wanting to experience the ride once.
