Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, the biggest in Europe, has lost its last remaining external power source as a result of renewed shelling and is now relying on emergency diesel generators, the U.N. nuclear watchdog said Saturday.
The International Atomic Energy Agency said that the plant’s link to a 750-kilovolt line was cut at around 1 a.m. Saturday. It cited official information from Ukraine as well as reports from IAEA experts at the site, which is held by Russian forces.
All six reactors at the plant are shut down but they still require electricity for cooling and other safety functions. Plant engineers have begun work to repair the damaged power line and the plant’s generators — not all of which are currently being used — each have sufficient fuel for at least 10 days, the IAEA said.

Russian vandals and thieves.
Ukrainian lunatics shelling the place.
Wait! Does this mean that nuclear power plants have to be plugged in to work?
Fancy that, a coal powered nuclear power plant.
As the article says, the plant is held by Russian forces, so Ukraine is shelling Europe’s largest Nuclear Power Plant.
I wonder how this relates to Zelinski’s plea to the US and NATO to launch pre-emptive nuclear strikes on Russia?
Sooner probably than later this whole thing is going to go nuclear. These people are pushing each other right to the edge. Everyone is going to suffer if this chit gets completely out of hand.
I believe the power plant isn’t currently operating, so a different source of power is needed.
It’s shut down but needs power to keep it cool. Renewed shelling cut the last outside power connection, and power for cooling is coming from on site generators now. Russia holds the plant, so the shelling must have been from Ukraine.
The shelling was likely Ukrainian.
The ukrainians switched their grid from russia to europe as the war started. There is a synchronization required for the AC alternating current (i read about it) Now russia must destroy this independence.
the gas powered f150 has a generator as well.
It was shut down the last I heard.
APBS
Is that an option now? It wasn’t available for our 2019. There’s a 400 watt receptacle on the dash...that we’ve never used.
