"Schizophrenia" might be going too far, but it also occurred to me that Wolf may be experiencing changes in her own psychology rather than changes in outer reality, other people, and society in general. There are probably studies on this, but I would think that as we get older our basic perception of everyday reality changes in some subtle ways.
A few years after I retired, I noticed that my old workplace and the people in it acquired something of a dreamlike quality, as if it had lost some of its former reality. Also, as you get older, you are more likely to see the vanity of so many things that people occupy themselves with, and this may give the world a certain sense of unreality.

Nope. I ran this article past a friend who is a registered pharmacist and pharmaceutical company exec. She totally agrees with the information . Perhaps the writing style is a tad overblown, but the facts are solid.
