Gov. Larry Hogan books New Hampshire appearance amid talk of White House bid

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) will make an appearance at a political event in New Hampshire this week amid speculation that he’s eyeing a 2024 presidential bid.

The New England Council on Monday announced Hogan would be appearing at a Politics and Eggs event on Thursday, a part of a larger series held jointly between the New England Council and the New Hampshire Institute of Politics & Political Library at Saint Anselm College.

The series has been used as a forum for presidential hopefuls or those considering a White House bid to introduce themselves or expand their reach within the early presidential primary state. Other Republicans who delivered remarks at the series and have been widely floated as possible 2024 contenders include former Vice President Mike Pence and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Hogan, a vocal critic of former President Trump, said this year that he’s considering a White House bid. He told CBS News in July that he wouldn’t be making a final decision until January 2023.

It’s time to be like Mexico or the Confederacy and just give Presidents a single six-year term and ban any campaigning or fundraising prior to the year the election is held.

If he brings his wife up there with him, he’ll have all of his voters in one place.

He’s running for the campaign donations. He knows he stands no chance against President Trump. I feel sorry for the fool who donates even 1 cent to Hogan.

Hogan has almost zero name recognition nationally and his positions/behavior is an anathema to GOP conservative voters. If he runs he is simply hoping to increase his name recognition and hoping to be selected as the VP candidate if the GOP chooses a RINO for the top slot on the ticket.

At this moment who are the GOP potential POTUS candidates with a chance to win should Trump not run? Ron DeSantis and Rand Paul have the best name recognition and potential to drum up support in the voter base. Mike Pompeo may have a shot, particularly if Trump endorses him. Ted Cruz is a likely candidate, but looked upon with suspicion by some in the voter base.

Kristi Noem, Ron Johnson, and Glenn Youngkin have the potential to obtain conservative voter support but likely will not get the POTUS nomination. They could be seriously considered for the VP slot by the eventual nominee.

Others who will likely run but are not liked by GOP primary voters — Nicki Haley, Lindsay Graham, Liz Cheney, Mike Pence, Chris Christie, Asa Hutchison, Tim Scott.

If the eventual POTUS nominee decides to make a diversity (female or minority) pick for VP, Scott, Noem, Cruz or Haley are the highest profile potential choices.

I truly believe that the time for electoral purity is during the primary. That’s the more important vote because you get to choose which candidate most closely mirrors your views. In the general election, you have a choice of two.

If by some bizarre confluence of events Lockdown Larry survives the campaign and the primary, I will break my policy.

I live in Maryland and voted for Hogan. I do not regret any vote more than I regret his. He has done absolutely nothing for the conservatives that swept him into office. On the flip side, his raw, unconstitutional power grab during Covid showed his true totalitarian colors.
