Why have they named these treatments gender-affirming care?

Wouldn’t the treatments be gender affirming , if they help people understand they are a boy, or a girl, as the case may be? Wouldn’t it affirm their gender if they gave counseling to people to make them understand that they are in fact one sex or the other?

Why have they named these treatments gender-affirming care?

To the Greeks, "logos," which has origins in proto-Indo-European *log-o for "to pick out," means not just words but reason and truth derived from it.

As such, "names" are especially important. In Plato's "Cratylus," the sophist argues that names are social conventions and not representations of things. Socrates asks him, if so, then, can not we call a man a horse and a horse a man? Thus a "name" that is not truthful is not a name at all. As Orwell demonstrated, leftist totalitarian political oppression is coincidental with violence against words and meaning. So this use of "gender affirming" is a purposeful attack on truth.
