Putin’s religious image is most likely constructed for propaganda purposes. He claims to have become a believer in 1993 after resigning from his 16 years in the KGB (Soviet Union) in 1991 as a lieutenant colonel to enter politics.

I was raised during the Cold War and taught about Russian propaganda and how mind bending it is. Many in my Baby Boomer generation were lacking in knowledge about that, but subsequent generations are far more lacking.
