Ukraine is in a state of war and their entry into NATO now would mean NATO is now in a state of war with Russia, I highly doubt all the other members of NATO will be going along with that.
Russia seems to know Ukraine is “in NATO”. They have said as much. It may not be official, but rules don’t matter anymore.
Looking at the disaster of the collapsing economies around the world, I don’t think we will see people in the EU offering up themselves to defend Ukraine.
