At least 23 people have been killed and dozens more injured in a Russian rocket strike on a humanitarian convoy in south Ukraine, local officials say.
A huge crater next to a row of vehicles in the city of Zaporizhzhia testifies to the violence of the attack. Windows and windscreens were smashed in.
The BBC saw half a dozen bodies lying at the scene, apparently civilians. Baggage and coats strewed the tarmac.
One survivor told the BBC her boss had been killed in the attack.
"She had two kids. I left the cafe to use the restroom when it happened. I ran back and tried to find her. The cafe was demolished, there were many bodies around. It was all so very horrifying," Viktoriia Yosypenko said.
Reacting to the attack in the early hours of Friday on the outskirts of the regional capital of the Zaporizhzhia region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia was a "state-terrorist".
He said Russia launched 16 rockets on the city, and vowed to punish perpetrators for "every lost Ukrainian life".

So I’m confused. Doesn’t sound like this was a convoy on the road at all. They were stopped at a cafe or something and hadn’t even left the city yet. How would the Russians know this was a “humanitarian convoy” then? More Ukrainian propaganda instead of actual unbiased news, but you eat it up with a spoon.
Another FR “Yay Ukraine!” Spam post from one of our State Department paid shills.
Nobody cares. But we’ll make the politicians who approved all the $ our grandkids have to pay, pay dearly soon enough.
Pretty simple.
Then stay off the threads that portray a different and unbiased account of the Russia-Ukraine SMO. Pretty simple.
I conclude that some conservatives are all right with Putin aggression. Even the Russians don’t want to fight for this guy.
Er... maybe time to sue for peace and put an end to all this
85% of the people in this province voted to join Russia. By next week they will probably be part of Russia. Russia is not shelling civilian convoys but esp those of de facto Russian citizens.
How stupid are the people dutifully publishing these stories? How stupid do they think we are?
Five percent voted for it, if you’re talking about Zaporizhzhia.
The population of Zaporizhzhia Oblast was 1.67 million in January. It’s still over 900,000.
The total votes cast was less than 40,000.
800,000 of the citizens who are in Ukrainian held territory, didn’t get a vote.
The convoy that was killed was trying to make it to the Russian controlled territory which is about 70% of the province. Which is why the UKA killed them.
There were observers from 26 countries at the elections. TheUke govt has announced that election observers are added to its death list. Canadian journalist Eva Karene Bartlett has published her observations of the process She is also on the death list.
The observers were a crock of shit. None of them accredited, none of them following internationally agreed rules on impartiality.
One observer was a paid employee of a Russian news agency, and he sang the Russian national anthem before diligently ignoring everything happening around him.
Maybe one of the observers who reported no evidence of electoral wrongdoing was stood in THIS counting room in Zaporizhzhia, while a Russian TV crew watched a woman with a completely bored expression kept putting blank sheets into the yes pile without looking, on top of saying “Da!” every time she did it - and she did it in full view of the camera and presenter, AND in range of the boom mike!
You don’t even need to magnify the images. She’s not even looking at the side of the paper that gets ticked. You get a full frontal view of an entire wodge of unused sheets being stuck in the “Yes” pile.
This is a segment from that news broadcast - to Russian television (the full OB with the presenter talking is on Telegram).

Tell me, does that look legit to you? I’m willing to bet that you were one of the people who immediately assumed shenanigans were going on when closed boxes were being moved around in an unorthodox way during the US Presidential elections, how is this not an order of magnitude more obvious a STEAL?
The people who said that they were fired on by the Russians included survivors from the convoy.
Why would the survivors accuse the Russians of it, if they were trying to reach the Russian side and got shot at by the Ukes? Unless you’re saying the Ukes are far more in control of Russian territory than the Russians are, that makes absolutely no sense at all.
Amazing that they could tell it was a Russian rocket and not one supplied by the US to Ukraine.
