Russia sending oil and gas workers to fight in Ukraine
Asia Times ^

Russia’s effort to conscript 300,000 reservists to counter Ukraine’s military advances in Kharkiv has drawn a lot of attention from military and political analysts. But there’s also a potential energy angle.

In its call for reservists, Russia’s leadership specifically targeted oil and gas workers for the draft. One might assume that energy workers, who provide fuel and export revenue that Russia desperately needs, are too valuable to the war effort to be conscripted. But this surprising move follows escalating energy conflicts between Russia and Europe.

The explosions in September 2022 that damaged the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines from Russia to Europe, which may have been sabotage, are just the latest developments in this complex and unstable arena.

As an analyst of global energy policy, I expect that more energy cutoffs could be in the cards – either directly ordered by the Kremlin to escalate economic pressure on European governments or as a result of new sabotage, or even because shortages of trained Russian manpower as a result of conscription lead to accidents or stoppages.

Well, that doesn’t make much sense. Why would you cripple the only resource that’s making you money?

Comrade Putin plans on using them to steal Ukraine’s energy resources.

The resident Russian genius who has always been comfortable confounding the West with brilliant 3-D chess moves, struggles to grasp the basics of Tiddlywinks.

Or use them to turn off energy flowing through Ukraine to the West. From the OA --

But Russian President Vladimir Putin may have other ideas. Putin has already threatened a larger oil cutoff if the G-7 tries to impose its price cap, warning that Europe will be “as frozen as a wolf’s tail,” referencing a Russian fairy tale.

Fifth “Yay Ukraine!” Spam article in the last 11 posted to FR.

You people are ruining this place. I’ve moved mostly to Gettr and Truth Social, where State Department shills don’t last. Nobody there cheers this war, nor supports Ukraine.

Good job destroying FR.

“Europe will be “as frozen as a wolf’s tail,”

....Because no other country can export oil to Europe.

Guess what. My bet is that most of Russia’s oil and gas workers are Russian minorities and Muslims. Russian boys are not cut out to be roughnecks. Not these days. Are our white boys tough enough?

See “Five Easy Pieces”...back when whites were rough necks.

Oil is lots easier to transport than LNG. Europe must start moving from gas to oil. Heating oil. In homes and commercial/factory uses. Expand oil refineries and build some more.

Oil is lots more fungible than natural gas. BTW —— Germany was buying Russian natural gas (via pipelines) at the equivalent of $20/barrel oil. No wonder they got addicted to it.

Fungible being a key term in trade. The GEs can just import other countries’ gas at a profit thus making them do the conversion to oil. Tons of solutions. Capital always finds a way. A military dictatorship -not so much.

>>Europe must start moving from gas to oil. Heating oil.

No 2 heating oil used for residential heating is essentially the same as diesel fuel. More competition for diesel will be bad for trucking.

They’re going to work on the pipelines that Putin just stole.

Look at a map.

More likely they are sending them to work in the oil fields they have taken from Ukraine

Laughing, as in laughing at Dr. Trump who was giving the Germans some tough love on their addiction to cheap Russian gas.
Of course blame the ultra-dumbass Greenies there too. They demanded using/buying Russian natural gas due to it burning cleaner than oil and coal and putting out less evil CO2 than oil and coal. Gas has fewer evil carbon atoms in it. With natgas you are burning more hydrogen and less carbon than with oil and coal.

Almost the same as jet fuel too. They are all close to kerosene. For most years in the past diesel was priced cheaper than gasoline in the USA. Due to it being easier to make in our oil refineries.

The natural price for diesel fuel is lower than gasoline.
