Why old “white” dudes? And why “dudes.?”
What about all the young dudes?
Your lack of sympathy is disturbing and disappointing. You have no idea what you are talking about.
Historically, it is almost always young people who fail to evacuate.
I was responding to the claim that hundreds of people were killed.
I grew up and lived a half mile from the beach in south Florida for 35 years.
The idea that hundreds of people failed to evacuate the coast for a 155 mph hurricane sounds ridiculous, but I will wait to see some hard data before I comment.
Big difference between flooding from rain and flooding from storm surge.
Lol! Mott the Hoople!
Or David Bowie.
The anecdotes we are hearing on the hurricane threads here suggest that a lot of elderly (not as a percentage, but as raw numbers) sheltered in place.
The population in these areas has increased dramatically in the last couple of decades—and for many of the elderly it may have been their first major hurricane.
It is true that the very large state of Florida gets many hurricanes, but if you live in a specific location the major strikes are not that frequent at that location.
Evacuate to where? Before it hit forecasts had it hitting somewhere in almost the entire southeast.
I would think easily hundreds will be found dead. Those that stayed on Fort Myers Beach to ride out the storm are in bad shape
Plenty of idiots to go around. Saw a guy wearing flip flops climbing around the debris.
That was the sarcastic part of my post.
Yes of course Bowie too. I’ve always liked the Mott version.
“Did they count the 24 Illegals boat that were in the water during Ian and capsized trying to get into Florida.”
Wasn’t there supposed to be some idiot on a jetski trying to get to Bermuda or somesuch?
Yesterday some county sheriff from one of the heavily impacted areas was talking about a death count in the hundreds. We should all be thankful that it's likely to be far less than that.
The forecast flipped rapidly prior to landfall. By the time it was apparent where it was going to hit we deemed it more dangerous to put my elderly relatives from naples on the road in already deteriorating weather than to have them stay in place in their well prepared townhome. they thankfully were not in a flood zone which obviously would have changed the equation. Many were left to try to make the best decision out of several bad options
And they could blame every dead Floridian on DeSantis.
The media was cheering for death and destruction not seen since Hurricane Andrew 30 years ago. They're absolutely terrified that Governor DeSantis might handle this disaster with effective leadership and competence.
All I know is a boatload capsized in th ocean trying to land in Florida apparently from cuba.T wo made it to shore and a search was ongoing to find others so far unaccounted for.
I saw that idiot on video - just another fool begging for attention.
How can I have no idea what I’m talking about? I just stated basic facts! You move into a trailer park a couple miles off the coast in southern Florida expect to be wiped out eventually! Like I said it’s not her question of if but when. And if you don’t have any common sense to move a couple hours off the coast wanna hurricane is in your path well then I’m sorry you’re just stupid.
Anyway, it looks like the death toll will stay restrained, which is significant, since close to 1 million people live on the Gulf Coast between Naples and Tampa.
