The FBI since almost its inception has focused on political figures thought subversive. The difference that communists and their fellow travelers did mean the US harm. Radical leftists where I went to college did have things done that were to frustrate activities and if possible intimidate them. Their organizations mail was constantly lost or returned, their personal mail obviously opened. Several had their cars vandalized over again. Did I find that frightening? No. They were loudmouthed haters of the United States and regularly collected money for and mounted support efforts for obvious terrorists such as the Black Panthers. Since the end of the Cold War DOJ has become staffed with many lawyers who have the same mentality as Barack Obama and they have turned the FBI to consider normal Americans as the primary enemy.
