They wrote from their perspective of 230 - 240 years ago. I have already pointed out to you that we are not living in the late 18th century, or even the late 19th century. We are living in the real world of 2022.
You are certainly free to retreat back to the halcyon days of curing medical illnesses by blood-letting, and leaches; and having half your children die before they reached the age of three; of reading at night by firelight or candlelight exclusively; where you were likely to be slaughtered, along with your family, in a most gruesome manner by aborigines who saw you as trespassers...well, I could go on, and on. But, the reality is, that retreat can ONLY exist in your mind. Because the real world is...different.
