Search warrants are “Letters of Marque”, which means you as the searching official get to keep some, and the government gets to keep some.
What could go wrong with those perverse incentives!
And let’s not forget the 10% For The Big Guy.
Well, the sad thing is, letters of marque used to be only used against a country’s enemies. So any abuses they engendered would at least be victimizing people you didn’t have a lot of sympathy for.
Now, we’re granting them against our own citizens.
