Cuba has voted to legalise same-sex marriage in a national referendum.
About two-thirds of the population voted to approve reforms in a new Family Code, which will also allow surrogate pregnancies and give gay couples the right to adopt children.
It marks a big moment for Cuba, which saw gay people persecuted and sent to work camps in the 1960s and 70s.
However, there was significant opposition to the reforms among religious groups and conservatives.
The referendum on Sunday was for a new Family Code - a 100-page document which went through more than two dozen drafts and hours of debate in community-level meetings.
Cuba's government had backed the law change and ran a nationwide campaign urging people to approve it.

Great, now our homos can move to Cuba.
Yeah, because elections in Communist countries are always on the up-and-up.
Just in time for a swirling visitor to arrive.
When Marxists become neo-Marxists.
Seriously? Cuba of all places?
For once we beat the Commies to legalize depravity !
BBC staff writers humping each other in celebration
Ah, yes... One of the many ‘revolutionary’ aspects of life in Cuba are the neighborhood watchers. Each block has people assigned to make sure everyone is acting, and yes, thinking, like a good little commie. ANY suspicious indicators are immediately dealt with, and re-education begins. If the lovely ‘neighborhood watch’ learns that someone has too many books (libraries are verboten), the books are probably burned. The regular Cuban citizen cannot have in their possession any US dollars. That too is a crime. If someone does not vote, one is automatically suspect.
My favorite example of commies comes from an amazing book: Nicaragua: A Revolution In The Family. For years farmers and ranchers would bring their products to the large cities and small towns, and sell them in Farmers Markets. The public had access, with money or barter, to fresh meat, produce, etc. The day after the Sandinista commies took power, those Farmers Markets were illegal and all of the food was now classified as the People’s Food. Strict rationing was instituted. In Cuba there was, and probably still is, similar strict rationing. Instead of a car in every garage, Cubans are allowed 1 chicken a month. When Fidel was still in control, he would perform those 6 hour speeches, and attendance / clapping was mandatory. He would go on and on about the American embargo, and blame the food ‘shortage’ on evil capitalism (while Fidel enjoyed his 7 mansions). Communism and socialism is GREAT for those in power, for those with the guns.
The next thing we know, Muslim countries will be allowing homosexual marriage, but maybe not.
And their Homos can’t come here seeking “asylum.” LOL! Sometimes we win one.
This decision signals that the current Cuban commie leadership is firmly (no pun intended) in the globalist/WEF camp.
It surprises me that they had an election or referendum on this subject. Communist countries are well known for having sham elections where a candidate gets 99 plus percent of the vote.
So I’m surprised they would allow some free and fair election on the subject of defining manage and officially announce that only two thirds of the people approved
I suspect the government “got” the vote they wanted.
Do we even know if it was free and fair though?
The Obamas are en route to renew their vows.
It’s been nearly 7 decades since Cuba’s government represented the Cuban people.
Tagline.
Followed by cat 4 Hurricane Ian.
Honestly though, since when has a totalitarian communist ever given a damn about so called “gay rights”?
