A man has opened fire on an enlistment centre and another recruitment office has been attacked with Molotov cocktails – after Vladimir Putin ordered the conscription of at least 300,000 men in Russia.
The violence comes as the first tranche of people ordered to report for duty arrive at military bases, and it follows a weekend of protests, violence and arrests as Russians voice their anger and demonstrate over the president's mobilization plan.
The gunman opened fire at a conscription office in the town of Ust-Ilimsk, Irkutsk - critically wounding a military recruitment officer.
Sky News has verified a video of the shooting - reportedly by a would-be conscript.
It shows the gunman shoot the recruiter at point blank range, who falls to the ground as others at the draft office start running out of the room to the sounds of a woman screaming.
He was detained by police and identified himself as 25-year-old Ruslan Zinin in a separate video posted on social media.

Elsewhere, a man was seen throwing Molotov cocktails at a military registration and enlistment office in Uryupinsk, in footage circulating on social media.
It shows the man driving a car up to the entrance of the local government building in the centre of the Russian town.
He can then be seen lighting several Molotov cocktails, throwing them one by one at the entrance to the building.
Town officials confirmed the building was set on fire early this morning, and a man was detained. Damage was minimal and no one was injured, they added.

Russians are fleeing the country! It’s true! Here’s a completely true report! It was in the Daily Mail too! 100% valid report! Just like everything you post!
“On mobilization in Russia”
One of my friends got mobilized recently. He’s a mobile gamedev and a conscientious objector. So he tried to flee his city (Petrozavodsk) and drove to the nearest border (of Kazakhstan) but the seemingly endless traffic jam made him return in despair.
That’s how they caught him and transported to the nearest voenkomat. He couldn’t believe his eyes. There was a WW2 veteran standing in line as a volunteer. Soldiers were given out vatniks sheathed in camo print. Boots with so many holes that they looked like crocs and kits with personal hygiene items that included condoms. Yes, condoms. A Russian analogue of Durex - Gusarskiye so naturally they were also peppered w/ holes - a point of hearty laughter of everyone involved
They were to be transported in cargo section of soviet plane to Ukraine.
They were allowed to “relax” for a few hours before that - i.e get drunk/high out of their minds and listen to the instructions of the Politruk who riled them up by talking about beauty of the Ukrainian woman and prosperity of the average household.
The tattered drunks of all ages were all ears. “Listen up, scum. You’re about to fly first class to a western democracy. So do what you do best: destroy their livelihoods and make them pay for being better than us. We will defile their land because we can. First and foremost, we are Eurasianists. We’ve learned from the best: Mongols, fascists and communists. You don’t need any training - it’s in your blood. No need for fancy gear either. The strongest will survive and bring his enemies to heel” as my friend later recalled speech.
So obviously he was looking for a way to escape this. He stood up and said “I’m gay”. A crazed mob jumped him and beat him bloody. But he smiled the whole time, ignoring broken ribs and bruises. Nevertheless he persisted. He’s going to prison for life for his orientation instead.

Both the Russian and Habsburg Empires collapsed during WWI. Everyone knows about the Russian Revolution in 1917. In parts of the Habsburg Empire, people burned the vital records used to draft young men. The Putin regime in tottering on collapse.
Travis, when you post this, people will take it seriously.
It seems like the peasants are getting a little uppity. They don’t fear the gulags, like they did under Uncle Joe.

No doubt the Ukrainians will flee in terror of polar bears driving tanks.
Ukrainian/EU propaganda has made you silly. 😏
Gee, I remember that happening back in the “good-old-day” of the draft for Vietnam over here. Funny seeing it happen over there now.
I too remember that time and it had many differences. First of all people received a lottery number, so they knew roughly when they were likely to be called up. They could make plans for their jobs and property. They were not told one day and before the next was over snatched and given 4 hours to pack and report.
They could file an appeal, either for medical or religious reasons. I know one person who got a psychiatric 4F, and another who had a badly healed elbow from a fall. Could not crawl on belly and elbows even though he was a champion skier. A third objected on religious reasons and never served. Others were lucky to get a high number and never were even called upon.
There were those who went to Canada, but not in a mad rush without serious thought and planning. Did we ever have blocks on airline tickets? Were the people in Canada ever allowed to return? I don’t know the answer to those questions.
“Were the people in Canada ever allowed to return? I don’t know the answer to those questions.”
Yes, they were allowed to return, because Carter pardoned them.
The lottery started long after the war begun. Most of us in the 60s just got a letter from y no who
Iwas already THERE when I got my letter. /snicker
I lived in Detroit with bridge and tunnel to Canada. Draft evaders and military deserters who avoided serving in the Vietnam War by seeking political asylum in Canada between 1965 and 1975. I understand Canada stated 20,000.
In September 1974, President Gerald R. Ford created an amnesty program for draft evaders that required them to work in alternative service occupations for periods of six to 24 months.
Then in 1977, one day after his inauguration, good ‘ol boy Jimmy Carter not to be out-done offered pardons to any draft evader who requested one. This created controversy, with those on the right complaining of giving amnesty to criminals and those on the left complaining that requesting a pardon required the admission of a crime. LOL
According to sociologist John Hagan, after the 1977 amnesty about half of the draft evaders in Canada remained while the other half returned to the United States. Despite not being granted amnesty, about 4 in 5 deserters eventually returned to the United States.
Carter upset both the right and the left with his amnesty decision. A jurist once said, if you make both sides unhappy, it was probably a fair decision.
I read the whole link, and it said more than 20 Russian recruitment stations have been set on fire. Burn baby burn!
Was the lottery begun to make the draft more fair and help planning. Or was this because they moved the action from volunteers to needing more troops and therefore needing some kind of draft. I started paying attention to Vietnam about the time of the Gulf of Tonkin resolution. Some I knew favored the resolution, others were against it. The Domino theory was big at the time. I could not decide, so decided to read a long article in the Encyclopedia Britannica on Vietnam. At the end of reading that I decided the fight between north and south Vietnam was 700 years old and the Dominoes would probably NOT fall, at least not yet.
