Not always. I calmed down after menopause. My monthly cycle would send me into a deep depression. I never realized the connection until I had to have a hysterectomy because of cancer. After the surgery, I found that I wasn't having any of the normal (for me) depression cycle that I had become used to. I know it sounds nuts; but, that hysterectomy ended up improving my quality of life.
