What a moronic remark. Nothing you say outside of court is relevant to the judges or the opposition, unless you’re threatening people. You can make any number of claims in public that you don’t make in court. And Trump is definitely doing that regarding the MAL search. The only risk Trump faces is that he could be forced to contradict his public statements in court which would make him look bad.

The limited point Christie is making here is valid. Trump is fighting this stuff in the press while his lawyers aren’t willing to advance these arguments in court. That”s a bad strategy for anyone.

Nothing you say outside of court is relevant to the judges or the opposition, unless you’re threatening people. That isn't always true. It should always be true, but it isn't. Christie's point is that there is a political component to this, and battling in the press is making his situation worse because it will make it politically more acceptable to indict.
Best strategy is to play it all very straight, so that if they look to indict, it'll look far more political.

The DOJ fights in the press with leaks. Most defendants are helpless against their onslaught and they are used to just running all over anyone they don’t like. Trump has a big enough megaphone that he can fight back. They hate that.
